Mangaluru: Police arrest over 2,000 in state, leaders arrive for rally

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Sep 7: Police have set up barricades all along the roads leading to Mangaluru and also the roads within the city. They have been stopping and questioning two-wheeler riders in an apparent bid to stop the rally announced by BJP on Thursday September 7. On Wednesday, police stopped bike rallies at Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga, Mysuru etc from moving towards Mangaluru and took into custody over 2,000 BJP activists. BJP however said it is determined to go ahead with the rally at Mangaluru as planned.

On Wednesday, police arrested and released BJP leaders and activists like MP, Pratap Simha, who also happens to be president of state unit of BJP Yuvamorcha, former minister, S A Ramdas, and hundreds of others, who had made preparations to move to Mangaluru in a bike rally. The others arrested include leader of the opposition in state legislative council, K S Eshwarappa. and MLA, B Y Raghavendra, both of whom were arrested from Shivamogga and former minister and MLA, C T Ravi, from Chikkamagaluru. A large number of activists who succeeded in hoodwinking police elsewhere were stopped at the district borders.

State general secretary of BJP, Aravind Nimbavali, said that the Yuvamorcha of the party had sought protection for the rally being held at Mangaluru, and not permission. He said that the party is hell bent on holding bike rally and Padayatra from Jyoti Circle at Mangaluru. He also stated that in addition to holding public meeting at Nehru Maidan, party activists will also mob the office of the deputy commissioner there.

He added that state president of the party, B S Yeddyurappa, will make announcement about pursuing fight against the government with renewed vigour because of forcible blocking of motor bike rally.

The police have taken all steps to stop the said bike rally and Padayatra. They have arranged for tight security everywhere. On the other hand, the BJP is busy preparing to bring thousands of the people for the public meeting.

Many state BJP leaders like B S Yeddyurappa and Shobha Karandlaje have arrived in city. Others are expected to arrive soon.

One of the most literate district of Udupi in Undivide Canara has given many personalities like M A Pai for education sector, Khan Bahadur Haji Abdullah Haji Kasim Saheb Bahadur for banking and Udupi Ramachandra Rao was a space scientist and chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation.

Unfortunately by looking at the present political scenario it looks Udupi is not far behind Mangalore district while choosing wise people's representative.

Is the development those who have voted for BJP whose MP's threaten the law and order situation and openly acknowledge to burn the district?

The opposition has no other real issues to tackle this present government, So these BJP leaders take the issue of religion which they are good at and as informed by their boss .... Sad that Mangaloreans are supporting the leaders from outside just for thier political mileage ... the loosers are Mangaloreans. Ask our BJP leaders from Mangalore to go and protest in a similar way in Pratap Sinhas constituency, sure he will decline the plan

Just go through number of Agree vs. Disagree and the ratio in itself is a clear blessing or a proof in favour of Congress in Karnataka. We do not want the terrorists to rule us. Any thing and everything sheer by force which is not acceptable.

Where is all this money coming from to organise such large numbers from outstation. When the State Govt is at Bangalore why disturb the lives of peace loving people of Mangalore. In the absence of any concrete issues, such disruptive politics only indicate signs of nervousness and desperation due to the growing popularity of the present CM who has provided a very stable and able administration with all round development in an atmosphere of Peace, Harmony and Tranquility. Karnataka should take the lead for south India to discard disruptive and divisive politics.

Shobakka you are elected a by the people of our District hoping you would do some good work for the region and uplift the people in distress, it is most unfortunate we never saw you here once elected, instead you are busy in foul mouth politics to impress Yeddi. Never dare to contest once again from this region, you are sure to be garlanded with worn out slippers.
