Puttur, Sep 12: The claim of a girl living some distance away from here that she had been raped, and her action in getting admitted into hospital here on Monday September 11 sent police personnel and others into a tizzy. The girl, who happens to be a student of a school in a rural area in the taluk, had claimed that she had been abducted by two young men who raped her. However, she confessed during personal counselling with women police personnel that her allegations were a bunch of lies.

The girl, it transpires, often absented from school. She told the police officials that she concocted this story as she was disinterested in attending school. A crowd which had gathered in front of the hospital on the basis of the statement of the girl, who belongs to a minority community, disappeared within minutes of coming to know that the girl was taking the concerned for a ride.

The student belongs to a rural area near Bettampady. A woman known to her and some men had together brought her to hospital and admitted her there. The girl said that she was walking to her school when two unidentified man who came in a Maruti Omni vehicle sprayed some chemical on her face, which made her unconscious. She stated that when she regained consciousness, she was near the bus stand in the town. People who took pity on the girl came together in front of the hospital along with her relatives.

Omana, lady sub-inspector of the town police station, along with some other women staff of the station, talked to the girl behind closed doors. During her interaction with the women police, the girl confessed that she directly came to the town as she was not interested to attend her school. As said that she imagined this story and narrated it to a known person to escape from the situation. The relative in turn passed on information to other known persons and brought the student to hospital.

After the girl came out with the truth, her parents took her home.
