Doha, Jun 5: The second and concluding part of the fourth annual talent search, fancy dress, dance and skit competitions conducted by Mangalore Cricket Club (MCC), Qatar was held recently.

The response to the competitions, like the previous week when singing and instrumental music competitions were held, was overwhelming and it was heartening to see the enthusiasm and creativity of the participants.

The programme opened with a prayer and a welcome speech by the president of the Club Norbert Corda. Alwyn D'Souza, the cultural secretary of the Club then introduced the judges and explained the rules of the competitions. Edward Dias was at his best as the emcee of the programme.

The eminent panel of judges consisted of the ever cheerful dramatist/comedian and past president of MCC Vivian D’Souza, multi talented choreographer Nancy Pereira, a classical dancer and a singer who has performed alongside her husband Norbert Pereira in his shows and Konkani albums, the ever dynamic and energetic. Bessie D’Souza who is a choreographer, one of the event coordinators for opening and closing of Doha Asian Games ceremonies and past joint cultural secretary of MCC, and multi-talented young  Celia D’Souza, dancer, choreographer, involved in shows with the renowned Bollywood choreographer Shamak Dhawar, singer in band group and in Konkani albums of Norbert Pereira, and a runner-up of Miss Poona title and May Queen 2002 beauty pagent shows. Thelma D’Souza and Jenny D’Souza were the timers for the evening.

When asked for their comments the judges were in all praise for the quality and the professionalism of the items that were presented and were of special praise for the children.

Vivian D’Souza congratulated MCC for their efforts at promoting mother tongue Konkani and for providing the Konkani speaking Catholic community of Qatar, especially the children, a platform to showcase their talents.

Norbert Corda, president thanked the judges and appreciated the efforts of all the participants and their families for their time and efforts.
