Bengaluru, Sep 28 (DHNS): Days after chief minister Siddaramaiah sought a second term for himself, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president G Parameshwara on Wednesday said the Congress legislature party will elect the next chief minister if the party comes back to power in the 2018 Assembly election.
“It is the legislature party that elects the chief minister. There is no tradition in the party to announce the chief minister candidate ahead of the election,” he told reporters on seeking his reaction to a campaign in social media that Siddaramaiah should continue as the chief minister after the 2018 polls.
Even Siddaramaiah had recently expressed his desire for serving a second term as the chief minister. “As chief minister, I have participated in five Dasara celebrations. I seek the blessings of people to participate in the Dasara celebrations for another five years as chief minister,” he had tweeted after the inauguration of Dasara at Mysuru.
Parameshwara further said both himself and Siddaramaiah will lead the party in the coming elections. There is no need for any discussion in this regard, he added.
