Bengaluru, Sep 29: Two senior citizens died on the spot due to stampede at a spot near Yelahanka in the outskirts of the city where free ration coupons for next year's Ramzan festival were being distributed. The incident happened on Thursday September 28 due to stampede created due to the clamour for collecting ration coupons by a large crowd that had gathered there.

A local, Syed Asif, had sent WhatApp messages inviting poor Muslims to come to the spot for collecting free ration coupons being distributed there on Thursday. Thousands of people from the city and districts around the city had come to reap benefit of this gesture. The programme was arranged at a marriage hall in Yelahanka. Police personnel stated that the catastrophe occurred within sometime after coupon distribution programme began at 4 am.

The deceased were Rehamathunnisa (70) from Chintamani in Tumakuru district, and Anwar Pasha (60) from Chittore, Andhra Pradesh.
