Kundapur, Sep 29: A youth who had embraced Islam six years back and had turned into a staunch fundamentalist, adopted Hinduism again recently and returned to his native place. He happens to be Sukesh Poojary (24), son of Shivaram Poojary and Sujata Poojary couple from Katbeltur village in the taluk.

Sukesh was found mentally devastated and drained last year. The locals had admitted him into Choorakkad Shivashakti Yoga Centre near Kandanadu, Ernakulam, on March 23 last year. He returned to his original religion during his stay there.

During college days, Sukesh came in contact with organizations like Jamaat-e-Islami, Salafi Association, and Dawa organization. He used to be in company of Muslim youth in his lane and turned into a strong fan of Zakir Naik, who is known to spread Islamic fundamentalist ideas all over the nation. He used to speak in support of ISIS. His friends say Sukesh changed his mind after coming to know about the role of Zakir Naik in destructive activities.

Sukesh had got converted into a Muslim when he was 18, and had change his name as Tayyab Shiyan. After the Yoga Kendra succeeded in reforming his mind, he came back to his native place and also visited Dr B B Hegde College here where he had pursued his degree in law. Sukesh Poojary had become mentally unstable then and had stopped mingling with others. His mother used to trade in coconuts, while his father happens to be a Daiva Patri. His younger sister attends school.

It is learnt that the said Yoga Kendra has helped a number of young men and women who had converted into Islam, to return to their original religion. People from different states get knowledge about the ancient Hindu religion at this centre.

Sukesh says that Hinduism does not overlook or neglect other religions nor does it propagates hatred towards other religions. He feels that here is no freedom in Islam, particularly for ladies. He said that in view of these things, he decided to return to Hinduism.
