Udupi: Rs 100 crore sought for emergency repair of pathetic road in Manipal - Shobha

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Oct 5: "Process of land acquisition of land for widening of national highway 169 between Malpe an Thirthahalli is in progress. A notification for the same had been issued in the gazette on May 31 this year. The notification contains all the information about village-wise details, jurisdictions of police stations on the way etc," said Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP, Shobha Karandlaje.

The MP further explained that all preparations have been made to publish a detailed notification containing survey numbers of each of the villages which would be required to be acquired for the widening of the highway and that same would be published in the central gazette soon. "Once this is done, the process of land acquisition will gain momentum," she explained.

Shobha said that she is aware of the pathetic condition of the road between Syndicate Circle in Manipal and BEM School at Parkala. She added that she had met union minister for surface transport and highways, Nitin Gadkari, on September 25 and urged him to release special grant of Rs 100 crore for undertaking emergency repair of this road by pooling funds from various sources like natural calamity fund, and that the minister had positively responded to her request. She said that repairs of the road would have been undertaken by now but because of heavy rain in the region, it has been delayed.

Is it a rocket technology to build a good international road with three lanes each side and a good foot path for just a distance of 6 to 8 KM in Manipal? All are lazy and least interested just like the MP...leading from front! Now due to protest...just a small time eye wash! Is it because religion and communal votes guaranteed? Incapable people should be shunted out by public pressure! Police should be mild on peaceful protesters for a cause of better road.

    Dear Friends,
Is this fund asked for road repair or coming election campaign. If road repair, how much will be actually spent on the road repair ? May be 25% of 100 crore as 75 % will be shared from top burecat to the person who undertakes the work.

    @ DINNU,
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is an autonomous agency of the Government of India, responsible for management NH maintenence falls under Central government.
    Why Siddaramaiah should receive funds?
Possible that BJP high command and Yogi must have wispere in Shobakka's ears to request for allocation of funds so that partly could be used for forthcoming assembly elections.
Bettr not to jump from branches to the Tree.

    @ DINNU,
NH do not come under State government.
You should ask the BJP government at the centre so that funds are released and partly utilized for the election purpose.
Cannot rule out that Amit Shah/Yogi wispered something in her ears during their last visit.

It seems as though a new season called "rains" have just popped up in 2017.
The pathetic condition of the Manipal roads is not not new.. I have seen it in last 18 years..
Every year same awasthe. Tiger Circle or TC every year has a big pond around the fountain!!!
    Nothing new.
The Manipal - Udupi - road is definitely wonderfully made. But the stretch climbing the hill to reach syndicate circle is filled with craters.. Beautiful buildings of all brands in the left and pot holes in the front. So keeping an eye on the road fixed is critical while driving/riding that stretch.
Same is the misrable state of road leading from TC to Alevoor.
Everyyear we see the roads getting "repaired" just before and during rains. It seems like a joke.

Every MP/MLA from every party in India and every bureaucrat from every state in India has a standard answer for the bad state of roads – “BECAUSE OF THE RAINS”.

Shobakka, is it the first time that it rained in our region? Or did the PWD / NHAI Officers who approved the repair bills last year did not know that it is going to rain in 2017 monsoon season? We are in 21st Century. I do not know anything about the science of road construction. But I am 99.99% certain that man has found a scientific solution to fix the pothole problem since the roads of Scotland, Singapore and Nordic countries are pothole free.

And what is this 100 Crores for? Shobakka, we are not asking for you to lay gold plated metal sheets on the road. Just decent bitumen and cement is enough for us.

P.S – now please do not send few MPs / MLAs / bureaucrats on a “study tour” of Scotland, Singapore and Nordic countries. Just ask them to visit the civil engineering section of any IIT or NIT in India and the professors are more than capable providing the scientific solution.

They know that every monsoon this is the state of affairs of road because of low quality of roads.

Only 30 to 40% of money is actual spent on roads, rest goes for distribution.

Why they cannot proactively sanction money before monsoon? Why wake up after so many deaths and injuries.

Why there was no proactive approach from this MP ? we wake up only when we are kicked on our butt ? these potholes are not of yesterday they were there for months now. Instead of paying attention to all these problems of her constituency this elected MP was busy promoting hatred and communal agenda elsewhere. Thank you, Ms. Shobha, for your kind and prompt and also thoughtful gesture in seeking emergency aid for repairing badly damaged roads. Roads are the true pathways for our daily survival for work or business or pursuit of our survival. As tax payers, people have the privilege to bring to your notice the essential repair work on all our roads so that the vehicles can move safely on the roads and fulfill their daily work. Satisfying the people's basic needs is the fundamental duty of all our leaders who are elected for the job. We have to take care of our people because they are all part of our family, our community and our beloved country.

In many countries when road repairs are neglected people can sue the Government for exhorbitant sums, and the litigations can be very costly and painful to everyone. The people of India are very tolerable as compared to many other countries. We need to respect them and help them so that their basic satisfactions can mean a great deal for the smooth running of our daily life.

Kindly therefore follow up this genuine need of road repairs, and in return God will take good care of you. "Dhanyawadh".

If my memory serves me right, the same MP and Government were in power in 2016, 2015 and 2014.

It would not be logical for me to blame Narendra Modi for the state of affairs of the National Highways in Udupi / DK districts. However, the local MP cannot escape the blame since the same problem arises every year after the monsoon. Constantly blaming the rains makes no sense as monsoon rains are a fact of life in our region and problem can be easily solved if scientific methods are applied.

In summary, repairing a road that should not have deteriorated in the first place is not called “development”. It is called corruption and incompetence.
