Mangaluru: Provocative WhatsApp status message lands man in trouble

Mangaluru, Oct 8: Konaje police on Sunday October 8 arrested a man for putting up a provocative message as his status on WhatsApp.

The accused, Mohan Acharya (30), is a resident of Pajir.

It is learnt that as his WhatsApp status, Mohan allegedly put the video of the brutal murder of man who was accused of raping a minor girl in Kerala. Not just that, he allegedly said in the same status message that those who steal or slaughter cows should be 'beaten to death' in a similar manner.

Lancy D'Souza, a resident of Pajir who saw this status message filed a complaint against Acharya.

Based on the complaint, the Konaje police investigated and arrested Acharya.

Konaje police have registered a case against Acharya under cyber crime laws.

    In the recently held conclave at Palace Grounds BJP wanted emulate UP model for social media outreach in Karnataka to create at least 5,000 WhatsApp groups in a bid to reach out to voters.

    The plan is to create at least 25 WhatsApp groups in each of the 224 assembly constituencies.
    In a way, the state unit of the BJP is trying to emulate the Uttar Pradesh model in its social media mass outreach programme. Ahead of the Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh earlier this year, the party had constituted a number of coordinated teams comprising information technology experts. Regional units and district committees were constituted. These teams had formed 10,300 WhatsApp groups.
    The accused, Mohan Acharya is one such among those groups who wanted foment communal tension by raising fake videos similar to Muzzafarnagar riots.
    In the coming days Kannadigas need to be very vigilant as BJP has no regional issues will try to divert the attention from actual promises.
    In order to save Karnataka from CM Yogi Uttar Pradesh be extra cautious about these fake social media groups.
    Please save Karnataka from another 'Godhra' or 'Muzaffarnagar'.
    This is the responsibility of every Kannadiga.
