Bengaluru: CM gives BBMP 10 days to fix 15,000 potholes after 3 die in accidents

Bengaluru, Oct 9 (Deccan Chronicle): Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has set a deadline of 10 days for Bengaluru's municipal corporation, BBMP, to repair all potholes in the city after three people were killed in a week in road accidents due to potholes.

"I have instructed the commissioner of the corporation to fill up the potholes in 10 days. All the potholes should be filled up or else we will investigate and take action against the people responsible," NDTV quoted Siddaramaiah as saying.

The chief minister’s instruction came after the third victim, Radha Ajanappa, was killed on Sunday morning. Ajanappa was riding pillion on a scooter with her nephew Ravi Kumar when the accident happened near Nayandahalli Junction on Mysuru Road.

The 52-year-old woman was thrown under a truck when Kumar lost control while negotiating a pothole. She died on the spot, while her nephew sustained minor injuries in the accident.

Her family has accused the Karnataka government of negligence.

"They didn't stop vehicles to go where potholes were there. They didn't give diversions for the vehicles. This is negligence. My family it should be last, in future it should not happen to anyone," Ajanappa’s son Manjunath said.

Two others, who were killed in a road accident, were also trying to avoid a pothole when they were hit by a Tamil Nadu road transport bus.

According to the report, officials have put the number of potholes in the city at over 15,000.

Firstly our country should get some strict laws for PWD contractors, because afte politicians these are people getting heavily paid. There should be some tar tests done as in how many% bituminous coal, tar etc.Govt should decide and pass it on contractors.I can see only big big cars and big bungalows of these contractors ,but when it comes to their work it's just 40% with very low quality.
Firstly stop giving n crores ,let them finishtheir work and then pay them full amount.Or else pass the bill that if within6months of road completion, roads get severe potholes, these contractors gets heavy penalty. Then see the road infrastructure.
Why is that Dubai roads never get holes, contractorpls ask them the recipes?

Only Sid can render these type of services to the comman man. Had BJP was in power (thank God they are not) they would have said its 70 years of congress rule and would have conveniently ignored people's request and would have swallowed up the money for the party's enjoyment.
Keep it up Sid. You are doing the right thing.
