Mangaluru: People hold mock funeral condemning condition of city roads

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (SB)

Mangaluru, Oct 10: MCC Civic Group with an effigy of a dead body held a unique protest at Kadri Junction on Tuesday, October 10.

The protesters alleged that Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) has utterly failed in repairing the roads and let them in pathetic condition.

“The roads in city have claimed many lives. The crater-like potholes are very dangerous for motorists. MCC, after repairing the roads, leaves them without fixing interlocks. This leads to many accidents,” said the protesters.

“MCC is not bothered about the lives of people. Interlocks are dumped at Kadri junction without placing them in a proper manner. MCC is digging the roads in the name of development. But they are not able complete the work in time which inconveniences people a lot,” said Gerald Towers, a social worker and member of MCC Civic Group.

Along with MCC Civic Group members many local auto drivers also joined in protest.

The citizens have no say in any of the projects of the local governing bodies. Nobody asks the citizens whether a road is to be developed, rather it is unilaterally decided.why should the interior roads concretised or even widened.till recent years was there was no necessity but suddenly every representative is head over heels in widening and concertising roads in their wards.the widened main roads concretetised are now mostly used as parking area and the same width of carriageway exists eg:kankanady road .a debate should be held on
1 why the roads are not asphalted (cost is not the criteria)
2.why widen roads which are in residential areas (is it to meet the builders lobby )
3.why there are no drains in widened concretised roads
4.why citizens are victimised by widening and TDR offers
5.why the public /residents opinion not taken while widening or concert using a road

At this rate we will have to have mock funeral's on a daily basis:
    1. Bendorewell "we r almost in the well"
    2. Sturrock Road "Rock On"
    3. Roads leading to Pumpwell from Kankannady
    4. Marnamikatte (Cascia School)
    5. Bejai New road 7th cross (Aug 01 2017 protest)
    6. Silva Road " Mangala Road"
    7. Hampankatta Junction "mother of all Pot holes"
There are many other roads too.
What are the corporators doing ? only wasting time and money.
The mayor, MLA and others only waiting for a death to happen due to the potholes and then might open their eyes.

They are responsible only to impose taxes and collect due taxes on time, if default with fenalty. People should join hands to take a processions to DC, Corporation and MLS's office or residence to protest.
United you stand divided you fall. Mangalore city do not deserve such bad state of affairs. Shameful & disgusting.

Please ask central government to release "GST" collected from traders immediately to states. Traders are asked to pay GST immediately on sales. But they haven't got yet paid back for their old VAT refundable & GST on purchases.

All money blocked by central government. Release money for states maintenance/developement.

Whom are you trying to fool??? It hardly rains in Bangalore and as per the report by bbmp there are more than 15000 potholes which is minimum of 2 meters wide.. so why in Bangalore it's still not repaired??? So I don't think even in mangalore it will be repaired in 2017.. 3 people already died as of now in Bangalore alone in last week
