Kolkata, Oct 14 (IANS): The first episode of a Bengali web series based on detective Byomkesh Bakshi began streaming globally on Saturday on the hoichoi digital Bengali entertainment content platform.

The hour-long first episode of "Byomkesh" is based on the stories of "Satyanweshi" and "Pother Kanta".

Fictional detective Byomkesh Bakshi was created by acclaimed Bengali writer Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay.

"This would be the first time that Byomkesh, a hoichoi original, will be available on an OTT (over-the-top content) platform, and will see Anirban Bhattacharya portraying the protagonist, Subrat Dutta playing the role of Ajit (his friend and chronicler), and Ridhima Ghosh as Satyabati (Byomkesh's wife)," a statement said.

The second episode, which premiers on October 21, will be an adaptation of "Makorshar Rosh" and "Arthamanartham."

hoichoi, founded in 2017, is SVF New Media's maiden venture.
