Riyadh: An Evening of ‘Mushaira’ Regales Enthusiastic Audience

Riyadh, Jun 15: “Mushaira is a symbol of Indian culture and ethnicity, and we make it a point to maintain our socio-ethical character,” said M O H Farooq, Indian ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, at the annual ‘mushaira’ held in Riyadh recently.
Organized and hosted by the Indian embassy, the event has been a regular feature for nine years now. Speaking on the occasion, Rajeev Sharare, deputy chief of mission, Indian embassy, said that Indian society is well-known for its spiritual and moral excellence and regard for moral and ethical values besides being an amalgamation of a large number of religious streams, languages, and dialects, that are essentially secular in character.
The auditorium of the Indian International School of Riyadh (IISR) - Girls Section, was filled to its capacity of 1,200 with about 300 more people watching and enjoying the poetry recital on CCTV outside the auditorium. The gathering of eminent and renowned poets mesmerized the audience with their poems and ‘ghazals’ until the wee hours of the morning.
Hifzur Rahman, secretary, culture and information, Indian embassy, welcomed the gathering and introduced the participants who had come from different parts of India.
Nepalese ambassador, Hamed Ansari, was the chief guest while distinguished poet Rahman Jaami presided over the event. Iqbal Ash-har convened the mushaira.
Participants included Chander Bhaan Khayal, Dr Mohsin Jalganvi, Suleiman Khumaar, Aalam Khursheed, Mukhtar Yousufi, Dr Anjum Baarabankavi, Dr Kaleem Qaiser, Irfan Jaffery, Nusrat Mehdi, Surinder Singh Shajar, Girgit Ahmadabadi, Iqbal As-har, Hina Shaheedi, Azm Shaakeri, Zia Tonki, and Mesam Razvi.
