Media Release

Riyadh, Oct 30: The tenth annual general body meeting of KWAR (Karavali Welfare Association Riyadh) held on October 27 was well convened by a good number of people at the Famed Restaurant auditorium here. The meeting commenced around 1.00 pm after a delicious lunch served to all the invitees/members.

The talented Nitin Rai Kukkuvalli, resident editor of VK Newz and key man of KWAR welcomed the guests with a wonderful welcome speech well appreciated by all. He narrated KWARS contribution to his fellow Indians especially to the Karavali Karnataka people working in Saudi Arabia. He then handed over the dais to KWARs man of all seasons P M Bhaskar.

P M Bhaskar then took over the afternoon programme and welcomed the outgoing members of KWAR’s previous existing committee, president Santhosh Shetty, Vice president Muzaffar Ali, general secretary Shashidhar Haridas, joint secretary Victor Menezes, treasurer Nelson Dsouza and former president and adviser Ramesh Shetty to the dais. Bhaskar surprised the key executive members of the outgoing committee by narrating their experience and each member shared their love for KWAR which was well appreciated by the huge gathering.

The outgoing KWAR president Santhosh Shetty in his keynote, stressed the need for unity of KWAR, thanked all the office bearers, executive members, members and well-wishers who supported him during his reign as president in its ninth year.

An illustrated presentation was followed by KWAR’s acting general secretary Victor Menezes who briefed the audience about KWAR's programmes, achievements and charity
works during the period 2016-2017.

Nelson Dsouza, who had a great stint as treasurer of KWAR gave a briefing on financial statements reflecting all the positive financial aspects of KWAR as a successful organization. The specialty of Nelson Dsouza’s simplicity and his love for KWARs cause was well entrenched in his address in Tulu as well as native Kannada which was well appreciated.

The core issue of the day began with the outgoing president dissolving all the committees and sub-committees. A specially appointed election committee represented by Jagannath Shetty (consultants to Royal Commission of Jubail and Yanbu Ksa), Jatyarama Shetty (Sr finance manager KANOO Group) and Jagadish Alva (finance, Carrier Saudia) were given the task of conducting the election procedure and to elect the new president, vice president and all the other important portfolios of KWAR
executive committee 2017/2018.

The election commissioners gave each member a chance to represent himself and overwhelming enthusiasm shown by members justified the elected member’s love for KWAR as well as upholding the unity of KWAR. Apparently, the election commissioners had the pleasure of announcing the unanimous re-election of president Santhosh Shetty, vice president Muzaffar Ali and unanimous election of general secretary Nelson Dsouza, treasurer Mahesh Hegde, joint secretary Victor Menezes and Irfan Aboobaker, joint treasurer Suresh Raj Suvarna, Ramesh Shetty and Rajesh Kumar (were nominated as advisors) as well as other office bearers of KWAR team 2017-2018. The celebrated background music by KWAR’s P M Bhaskar when announcing the names of each and every elected member was a masterpiece of the grand evening. KWAR’s Mahesh Hegde thanked all the three election commissioners for their unbiased election process and wished them to be part of KWARs upcoming events.

The newly re-elected president Santosh Shetty thanked all the members for reiterating their faith in his leadership. Santhosh shetty, a well-known organizer and social worker promised to keep the unity of KWAR at any cost with his dedication and love for the organization. It was with pride that KWAR announced Santhosh Shetty's nomination by the Embassy of India to represent Indian migrant workers who were welcome to contact him with any grievances. He requested all Karavali and Karnataka people to support KWAR's activities in the coming days especially its blood donation camp (scheduled on January 26, 2018) and the upcoming food festival and sports days.

The grand evening came to an end with the recitation of Jana Gana Mana, the revered Indian National Anthem.

Congratulations to the President and new Committee. Its heartening to see some new faces in the KWAR team. Karavali Welfare Association Riyadh has been doing good social and charity work over the years. Its contribution and support to the Indian Embassy amnesty drive was commendable. Needs more volunteers to join the team to help in the social work.
