Udupi, Nov 4: “2,170 unnatural deaths are reported in Udupi district during the last 34 months. Such incidents cannot be ignored,” said superintendent of police (SP) Dr Sanjeeva Patil here on Friday, Nov 3.
“105 people have died out of drowning in different police station limits in Udupi district this year. While 39 of them have died while they went for fishing, 66 people have died by accidentally falling in water,” he added.
“We unnatural deaths in 2015 were 708, in 2016 they were 843 and this year we have seen 619 deaths till now,” he informed.
“The places where the people have drowned by falling into water will be inspected. If the places are known for tourism and often visited by people, the police department will identify such places and warning signboards will be installed within next two weeks,” said SP.
