Udupi, Nov 5: Young scientist of Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru, and ornithologist, Harish Bhat (46), from Udyavar near here, breathed his last all of a sudden late night on Friday. He was on a visit to the district to provide guidance to Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district level science exhibition and competition being held at Alva's, Moodbidri.

Bhat was the son of Innanje Undaru Ramakrishna Bhat and Sumathi R Bhat couple who had settled in Udyavar near here. He had studied at Christian High school, Board high school and MGM college here. He is survived by wife and a child.

On Friday, after holding consultation with lecturers, Bhat had discussed all the issues with chairman of Alva's Foundation, Dr M Mohan Alva, and had lunch with him.

When he came back to the venue of the exhibition sometime later, at around 2.45 pm, he collapsed to the ground. Immediately he was admitted into a local hospital. However, as his condition was precarious, he was rushed to a private hospital at Mangaluru. The doctors said that Bhat died of acute brain haemorrhage.

Bhat had disclosed about the nagging headache he had been suffering from since sometime, to his family members four days back, and had been prescribed medicines by a local physician. He also had talked about his headache to another scientist who accompanied him, identified as Narayana Aiyar.

Bhat had tremendous interest about environment, bio diversity, plants, trees etc. He was associated with Adamya Chaitanya and Vagdevi organizations, Bengaluru. He was involved with research and scientific studies.
