Udupi, Jun 23: Atul Rao, the prime accused in the circumstances that led to the  mystery death of Padmapriya, wife of MLA Raghupaty Bhat was brought from an undisclosed location in Mangalore to Manipal police station, on Monday June 23.  The police have registered cases of kidnap and conspiracy to abet suicide under Indian Penal Code 306 and 365.  He would be held in lock-up at Manipal police station till he is  presented before the court here on Tuesday June 24 morning.

The activists of the  District Congress Committee (DCC) staged a protest in front of  the Taluk Panchayat office, here on Monday June 23, urging the state administration to hand over Padmapriya's mystery death case to the CBI and demanded a  brain mapping of Ragupathi Bhat, former Karkala MLA Sunil Kumar and Atul Rao

Congress leader Pramod Madhwaraj, addressing the agitating party men said that if MLA Raghupaty Bhat cannot manage his home affairs, how he will manage the affairs of his constituency?

Its essential to hold CBI probe on Padmapriya’s case, since she was directly involved in business as well as personal affairs of both her husband Raghupaty Bhat and his close friend Atul Rao. Moreover, investigations are highly recommended to ascertain why there was a delay of nearly 24 hours by Karnataka police both in breaking open into her apartment and then to bring her mortal remains back to the town.

The state police department is acting like puppets in the hands of state home minister Dr V S Acharya who too has very often misled the people. His irresponsible statements have played a major role in making this case so suspicious, he alleged.

“We do not trust the investigations undertaken by Karnataka police on Padmapriya’s mysterious death,” said Pramod Madhwaraj.  Protests will be held in every village and wards across the district, if the demand to hand over the case to CBI is not met at the earliest, he cautioned.

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) spokesman M G Hegde, addressing the protesters, said that he will have no trust even after probing the case by CBI, because the work of destroying all the proofs related to Padmapriya’s case are systematically in progress at the behest of investigations by state and local police.

Raghupaty Bhat has made his wife scapegoat to save the dignity of his family while Dr V S Acharya has tried to cover up the case by curtailing the police powers.  If police takes the lead from the data of mobile used by Padmapriya, the truth behind her death will be exposed, he added.

Congress leaders Divakar Kundar, Vithal Shetty, Narasimhamurthy, M A Gafoor, Bhaskar Rao Kidiyoor, Murali Shetty, Habib, Janardhan Bhandarkar, Harish Kini and others were present during the protest.

Hi Kisar, I have also followed this case closely on newspapers and TV. Most of the confusion was created by TV channels. Police or Home Minister never gave conflicting statements. Only mistake of HM probably is saying "Tomorrow there will be good news" which I don't think is wrong as at that moment they had a clue that Padmapriya is in New Delhi.

Also regarding Kolar/Malur note that no one in official position said that - it was pure speculation from media who were probably misguided by  (intentional) leak in police dept. In this age of 24x7 Media coverage not everything told in some point can be held against someone.

I disagree with Mr. Preetham.when you see the comments from starting of the case of Mrs. Bhat (13th June) most of the people had suggested to handover the case to CBI only because the complaint of missing of Mrs PadmaPriya is been logged by Mr. bhat family only after 2 days.

And the second thing is that we get different statements from Home minister, Mr. Bhat and the police who where handling the case about the missing of Mrs. Padmapriya from the first day of missing. And last but the least do Mr. Preetham has any personal problems with Mr. MG Hegde?????

Kumar & all those who oppose CBI investigation: You do have a point there, the Law enforcement system, you call law and order & justice system is very poor in India, and in special in Karnataka. When it comes to Law and Order & justice for poor people, no one cares, the whole justice system is poor. People in power, Politicians, Govt. authority need to overhaul the system, it takes years of hardwork, but begining must be made by those in power.

Here, killing a bird is no big deal, killing a Lion makes news. The CBI may also need to improve upon their performance, may be they are not efficient enough. We need more qualified people do efficient job, bribery must be abolished but how far that happens don't know.

The circumstances leading the death warrants CBI probe, probably you may have a limited knowledge & I cannot fill it. This is fitting response to those who oppose CBI investigation in this case. The case is not very complicated. We need people who say, bring me the problem, I will resolve.

All defeated political leaders are pulling their opponent party leadership's legs by hook or crook. All these people are wasting thier time, energy and money at the cost of poor public and misusing the media.

We have a lot of unsolved problems like poverty, housing, food, education, transport, roads, communication etc. Corruption is the route cause for this type of problems. Money & Muscle power changes all because majority of the people are jobless & poor they run after these leaders for their daily bread.

At the same time these leaders are misusing & misguiding the jobless youths for goondaism with muscle & money power. Really we the young talented general public should stop voting these political leaders. We need to vote the independent candidates and make some changes in the society.

For eg. like Mr. JP Hegde of Brahmavar. (was a independent, not now) See the corruption sky rocketing / happening in the Revenue dept of each taluk. If u go to the document writer or lawyer to write your document for selling / buying any flat, land etc you got to give minimum Rs. 5000/- per transaction.

These corrupt officials are sucking the blood from the poor & the low income people. Their voices can not be heard by anyone. Poor become more and more poor. Rich become more and poor. These corrupt officials are not taking the bribe from the public.

The document writers or the lawyers give the money after the duty hours at the designated place / house / hotel etc. Even the Lokayukta also knows this. Why the elected Govt cant make a rule saying that the individual party must go to register their propery, no agent / pimps or document writer or lawyers are allowed to do the transaction on behalf of the public.

Brain mapping should be done to few corrupt MLA's, Tahasildars, ADLR's, Revenue Registrar's etc. If I am wrong just try to speak to the document writer or lawyer about the bribe to be given to the buy / sell property. Please see these peoples lifestyle.

A poor farmer or low income people cant go and eat / drink at the highly standard Hotels. To get the job done some one is paying and someone is enjoying without paying a single paise. There are lot of honest people also, it is difficult to identify these plague sticken corrupt officials.

We need in our society a simple clear & transparent system. Can we expect a clean society without bribe. Let Lokayukha prevent this deadly disease. Please let every one grow so that our beloved country could grow beyond expectation.

Now the real picture is coming out.No doubt along with Raghpathi Bhat,Sunil Kumar and Atul Rao is directly involved in Padmapriya's death.Sunil Kumar,an ex-MLA,, hae so many criminal cases against .Only CBI enquiry is the right solution.

There are lots of opinions coming in, favoring and opposing handing over of this case to CBI. Generally, even I am opposed to handing over of each and every case to CBI. As rightly pointed out by Mr. Kumar, in such a case we will have to open CBI stations in stead of police stations everywhere.

But this is a special case - public figures are involved, a lot of politics involved, covering up involved, suspicion involved, two states are involved and above all, the home minister of a state is directly controlling the investigations and he can change the direction of the investigation the way he wants .

In such a situation, the public demand for handing over the case to CBI is very much justified. The BJP’s opposition for handing over the case to CBI is a very strong reason in favor of handing over the case to CBI. If Mr Bhat was innocent, why BJP is hesitating and afraid of CBI enquiry? Even handing over the case to CBI will not do much justice to the case, the only big difference it will make is the control of investigation will pass over from BJP to Congress.

Since the outcome of the CBI enquiry will have more public acceptability than the out come of the local police enquiry, it is better for the BJP government to hand over the case to CBI and face the consequences than keep the public in the shroud of suspicion.

If you recollect the statement dated 17th says 'Fear of Cops on Trail made Padma End life' then in other statement it was said that she must have been watching TV and the local news made to take this drastic action. The question is from where did Padmapriya get the rope at that moment to hang herself.

I don't see U.R.Sabapathy in the Congress protest - so rumours about him joining BJP must be true?? Sad state of affairs though. Today BJP has released press statement asking why CBI was not involved when Udupi congress leader's sister in law and baby were killed mysteriously. I can understand where they are coming from though - day in and day out Congress has tried to politicize this issue after crushing defeat in elections. I never expected Udupi politics to stoop so low though...

It is pathetic to see people trying to get political mileage out of every issue. Family affairs and politics are different issues and it is foolish to say that a leader should never have family problems. Also, as Mr. Preetam Kini rightly said, every issue cannot be handed over to CBI. If we have to , then we need to open CBI stations in the place of police stations all over the country. Further, i remember at least 3 poor girls being raped and murdered in undivided dakshina kannada -one each in kundapur, udupi and Bantwal, that remain still unresolved. No political leader or women's organization ever tried to persue these cases to get the culprits caught or punished. The reason is simple-the girls are from poor families and the cases offer no political/ personal advantages!

I don't know what is pathetic - Congressmen politicizing a tragic issue or Udupi Congress importing M.G.Hegde (ex-Hindu Yuva Sene leader) from Mangalore! If CBI needs to investigate everything why bother with police force? Govt should abandon police? M.G.Hegde has recently started Bachelor course in Criminal Investigation. May be his students can solve this problem!!
