Dubai: SMKC Gears up for Indoor Cricket and Throwball Tourney

Dubai, Jun 29: 
The sports committee of SMKC has announced that preparations for holding indoor cricket and throwball trounament -2008 are in full gear.

On June 20 at Winny’s Restaurant, Dubai a draw was conducted by SMKC sports coordinator Vincent Pereira in coordination with sports committee and in the presence of captains/representatives of participating cricket and throwball teams. Also present for this event were SMKC personnel- main coordinator Boniface Carlo, spiritual director Fr Freddie, honorary advisor Noel Mascarenhas and vice-coordinator Jennifer Mascarenhas.

Boniface Carlo emphasized that this spectacular event will provide unique opportunity for Konkani-speaking community to come together and participate in the sports tournament. It is a whole day tournament beginning at 9 am and will continue till late in the evening on July 11 at Insportz, Dubai.    
       
Soon after the draw was conducted, Vincent Pereira announced the fixtures for the participating teams and gave briefing on rules and regulations of indoor cricket and throwball tournament.

Fr Freddie lauded the support of all Konkani-speaking community and expressed happiness over participation of several teams.  This is one of the ways through which peace and happiness can be attained.

Main coordinator Boniface Carlo was overwhelmed by the participation of 20 cricket teams. Due to space and time constraint the number of teams had to be limited to 12. Although winning is the motive of each team, participation is even more important, he said. He assured that the event is shaping up well and in the coming year, SMKC has plans to organize the event in a bigger way, probably at UAE-level, he said. 

Noel Mascarenhas had all the praise for sports committee for their meticulous planning.  He thanked all the sponsors for their generosity and anticipated their support in the future events. He said, even SMKC core committee and sub-committee members have monetarily supported this event he said.

Jenneifer Mascarenhas proposed the vote of thanks and thanked all the members of the participating teams and wished them success in the event.

SMKC is a premier charity orgnaization affiliated to St Mary’s church, Dubai. Over the years it has been actively involved in many fund raising events and currently supporting several educational and medical programmes back home for the benefit of needy people.
