Mangalore: Mohan Crowned 'Tulu Kesari', Rakesh  'Tulunada Kumar'

Mangalore, Jun 30 : Mohan from V B Bengre team emerged as 'Tulunada Kesari - 2008' in a closely fought contest, at the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi District-Level 34th wrestling championship which concluded at the U S Mallya indoor stadium in the city on Sunday June 29. Rakesh Putran belonging to Sasihithlu Anjaneya team wrested the 'Tulunada Kumar - 2008' title.

This two-day tournament held under the aegis of Dakshina Kannada District Wrestling Federation also saw Vasant from the Sasihithlu Anjaneya team bagging the 'Master Shivaji - 2008' title. The Sasihithlu Anjaneya Gymasium emerged as the best team at the outing, with the V B Bengre team placed second.

In the finals of the 'Tulunada Kesari' competition, Mohan defeated Prakash Kotian representing V B Bengre team. Krishnaraj of Bolar Shivaji Physicals was placed third.

In the 'Tulunada Kumar' finals, Rakesh Putran subdued Jagadish of Sasihithlu Anjaneya team. Ajay and Mahesh Putran, both from V B Bengre team, jointly shared the third spot.

In the 'Master Shivaji' section, Vasant defeated Kartik of Sasihithlu Anjaneya team. In this section, the third place went to Ramappa and Dikshit from the Ramanjaneya team from Adyarpadav.

Chancellor of Nitte deemed university N Vinay Hegde, who presided over the prize distribution function held in the evening at the same venue in his address, underlined the need for extending more support to  wrestling in the district. Chief general manager of Corporation Bank M Narendra, who was the chief guest, said that efforts always give results. For sportpersons, winning and getting defeated are not very important, but trying to win is. "Likewise, in our combat with day-to-day problems in our lives, we should face them with guts, courage and determination," he advised.

BJP leader K P Jagadish Adhikari, DK District Wrestling Federation president Navin Karkera, honorary president M Sureschandra Shetty, secretary Prakash Karkera and others were present. Prakash Kadri compered the programme.
