Puttur: Pickup van hits auto rickshaw, claims LKG student's life

Puttur, Nov 22: In a tragic incident which happened at Piligodu near Uppinangady in the taluk, a four-year old boy lost his life. The boy, a LKG student, died after a pick-up van rammed into the auto rickshaw in which he was seated.

The accident happened on Wednesday November 22. The victim has been identified as Mohammed Sanad.

Sanad was a student of Madinathul Munavar English Medium School, Muddadka near here.

Uppinangady police have registered a case. Investigation has been taken up.

    It is true that for two wheelers helmet is compulsory ... even if you want to drop some elderely person to bus stop or market or hospital... traffic police show no mercy on them and just put fine for to the rider. At the same time... Auto drivers in some area like market place, busy roads show no signal either by hand or light... but just turn the auto where ever they like to turn w/o noticing someone is coming from back... dont even have patience to wait for few seconds to check the other vehicles moving towards them... what is this ? We could see childrens sitting on side guard with bags and waving hands to others... during school hours ... no rule for them... trafic police wont even stop them and give warning... there is no side doors, top roof ... this is trafic rule of our state and country...

    Does anybody think that doorless auto rickshaws are safe for little children???

    It is laughable that our transport authorities would even allow these three-wheelers to ply on roads let alone carry passengers. Just think... they force two wheelers riders to wear helmets and car passengers to wear seat belts..... but what about auto-ricks? they dont have doors or no safety barrier... nothing... just seat and a flimsy tarpaulin roof. In an event of accident, there is a high chance that auto rick will topple over and also throw off its passengers out.

    I want govt to bring common sense laws when it comes to and vehicle safety. Its about time that govt make a plan to phase out auto riks and encourage to switch to a more safer vehicle.

    Pick up vehicles and autos... both are seen always on reckless driving.... now for no mistake if it's a kid lost it's life.... who ever is guilty.... you will never be pardoned for this sin....

    No point of blaming anybody. by the pictures, it can be clearly noted that this was just a minor accident that should not have claimed any life. Loss of life over here is the result of our haphazard rules regarding the safety is the reason.

    I suggest you to save your outrage for any other things and read my comment.
