New Delhi, Nov 22: To put a stop on flow of black money in real-estate sector, Union government is contemplating to link Aadhar to property transactions.
The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and Department of Land Resources are discussing the proposal and working on modalities to implement this through state governments.
Union Housing Minister Hardeep Puri has said that he has no doubt the linkage would happen. "It is a great idea to link Aadhar to property purchases. But I am not going to make an announcement on that. It is being linked to banks accounts etc. We can take some additional steps also. It is headed there in any case," Puri told a news channel.

"Such a move would go a long way in sucking out black money from real estate and also help in crackdown on benami properties. The linking will help tax authorities to monitor the entire transactions of a person," he added.
In the current system, providing PAN is mandatory while registering properties in some states. However, still some transactions manage to go undetected. By linking Aadhar to properties, the government can monitor the property transaction between two parties and curb registration of properties under others' names to park black money, he said.
Aadhar linkage to innumerable government schemes, PAN, bank accounts, phone numbers, insurance policies, PPF, NSC, LPG connections has been made mandatory. Though identification becomes easy with the linkage, it has generated a lot of debate. Several petitions against the Aadhar linkage, apprehending breach of security and privacy issues are being heard in the court.
