World not kind to women: 'Blade Runner 2049' director

Los Angeles, Nov 27 (IANS): "Blade Runner 2049" director Denis Villeneuve defended his film against criticism of sexism and said the world is not kind to women.

Villeneuve said the Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford-starrer is simply a reflection of the modern world, reports dailymail.co.uk.

"Cinema is a mirror of society. ‘Blade Runner' is not about tomorrow; it's about today. And I'm sorry, but the world is not kind on women," Villeneuve told Vanity Fair magazine.

"Blade Runner 2049" explores the complex relationships between humans and machines, but some critics are saying it doesn't do enough to give its female characters a rich inner life.

"I am very sensitive to how I portray women in movies. This is my ninth feature film and six of them have women in the lead role," Villeneuve said.
