Bengaluru: Five years jail for official for diverting PDS rice, Rs two lac fine

Bengaluru, Nov 28: A CBI special court has convicted a former assistant grade-I officer of Food Corporation of India for diverting rice meant for public distribution system (PDS).

The convict is K S Srinivasaiah, who worked at food storage depot at Maddur in Mandya district.

As per details, Srinivasaiah abused his official position while working as shed in charge of the depot, and sent out 350 bags of grade-A raw rice worth Rs 4.81 lac into the black market. He had tampered the entries in the office records and misappropriated the rice meant for PDS.

A charge sheet was filed in September 2015.

The special court sentenced Srinivasaiah to undergo five years simple imprisonment for misappropriation and causing loss to the government exchequer. The court also slapped a fine of Rs two lac.

    These people cannot get better even now since it is in their DNA to cheat the people. In DK we must be facing the same problem I mean the same type of officials, since the APL card holders have not got rice or whatever ration from the PDS outlet since three months.

    Jossey Saldanha, Mumbai, Wed, Nov 29 2017, you know why simple imprisonment? Because its only 350 bags of grade-A raw rice worth Rs 4.81 lac. They felt that its nothing compared to crores being swindled. We are all sleeping by not asking how crores and crores sanctioned for public works is being spent and where do we have the details of expenses.
    Just see the Padil new bridge recently inaugurated by our MP. Can anyone in his right senses design such a shoddy underpass so low with a depression for rain water to collect? Do we know which engineer designed it and who approved such stupid design? I never knew that Mangalore is so irresponsible not to hold these crooks accountable. Why could not our MP question such stupidity instead of inaugurating it and boasting about spending crores to such a insignificant work?

    By raising these queries you have demonstrated that not all of us are sleeping. Many people are doing their duty as responsible citizens to protect their own rights and to protect democracy and liberty. There are 1.3 zillion problems to tackle and everybody has to play their own part by taking up issues that they are concerned about.
    It appears you too are a vigilant citizen. One vigilant citizen is a majority!

    no need to wait for others to join you -majority of the people will not-majority of the people are scared of retribution-people think that they will become "bad" and fall into trouble if they complain about corrupt practices and wrong-doings- so they attend religious prayer-meetings in large numbers and hope that God will come down and do their work for them.
    Search on the appropriate websites and find out details of the project.
    If it is not available online then file RTI application with the appropriate authority - ask for work order, tender , approvals given by whom, which fund was used etc.

    Do we know which engineer designed it and who approved such stupid design?
    Find out through RTI application.

    hold these crooks accountable.
    Find out the information and make it public .

    During elections people should check the background of all available candidates(newspapers nowadays publish all this , otherwise google Association for Democratic Reforms and read up) . Only vote for the best qualified non-criminals.Check whether the political party manifesto suits your thoughts of democracy. If there are no good options then vote for NOTA and send a strong message to all political outfits to shape up or ship out.

    Good Point Amar Nathal. Reservation system at times to be blamed for such mindless design. Poor intelligence may lead to such poor designs! You are right! Intelligent people like Mangaloreans should question such exorbitant spending and raw deal!

    Food grains in crores of ruppees go waste in our state ,due to lack of proper storage & transportation, ofcource this person has to be punished for his crime at the same time government has to look into other matters also
