Belthangady, Nov 29: A group of robbers entered a house at Dethananje, Dharmasthala, tied and threatened a lonely man in the house and robbed cash, jewellery, mobile and ATM cards from the house. The incident took place on the late night of Tuesday, November 28.

The robbery took place in the house of Nagendra Prasad, son of Laxminarayana Noorithaya. Prasad had returned from the market at about 10.30 pm on Tuesday night. As he was about to open the lock and enter the house, robbers who were hiding near the house attacked him. The group holding knife and revolver allegedly tied Prasad’s hands with a rope and tied his legs, to the legs of the chair and fastened plaster on them. They ransacked the entire house and took away Rs 40,000 in cash, jewellery worth Rs 60,000, mobile phone and ATM cards. According to the victim, they threatened by brandishing the knife and asked him to part with the money and obtained secret codes of ATM cards.

Robbers left Prasad in the tied-up condition while leaving his house. He later untied himself after wrestling with the rope and plaster using his teeth for three hours. He alerted his neighbours about the incident and in turn, informed the same to the Dharmasthala police.

Dr Arunkumar, assistant superintendent of police, Bantwal, arrived at the spot and after preliminary inquiry, has guided the police team for further investigations. The dog from canine squad has gone till the main road from the house and returned. Police suspect that some known person might have given clues to the robbers that it is a house in which only one person lives. Prasad has said that the robbers were speaking in Hindi.

The robbers later at night have used one ATM card and withdrawn Rs 30,000 from it. They have used another ATM card in the morning and withdrawn Rs 40,000. Police have identified the ATM machine used by the robbers to draw cash. They are investigating if they can identify them with the help of CC cameras installed in the ATMs. A case is registered in Dharmasthala police station. A special squad has been formed for the purpose is conducting investigations.
