Udupi, Nov 30: A street dog which had inserted its head into an empty chocolate bottle, was roaming through the streets of the city with the bottle around its skull for about eight days. Unable to feed, the helpless dog was on the verge of losing its life when some social activists came to its rescue and saved its life.

Nityananda Olakadu, a noted social activist from the town, came to know about the worrying state of the dog that was aimlessly roaming the city streets with an empty stomach. He made several efforts to catch hold of the dog in an effort to release it from its ordeal since a week, but the dog always feared for its life, escaped from his hold and turned his efforts futile. The social activists were a bit fearful of the dog too as it is an untrained street dog.

The dog which turned weak with the passage of time because of starvation could be finally caught hold of on Thursday November 30. Thereafter, Nityananda Olakadu and Vinayachandra Sastan together worked on the bottle surrounding the dog's head, and separated the bottle from its body. The dog, which was happy to finally get relieved of the bottle, ran away.

The compassion shown by the social activists for a street dog facing danger to its life has come in for lavish praise from the general public. At the same time, the social activists have urged the city administration to take steps to contain the menace of street dogs, number of which has been multiplying rapidly.
