Mangaluru, Dec 1: The Muslim community celebrated Eid Milad on Friday, December 1 with great devotion and religious fervour in city and also in coastal districts.

Muslims offered mass prayers and greeted each other on the occasion at Idgah, Light House Hill Road in city and various other mosques throughout the coastal region.

Prayer meets and religious discourses too have been organized in mosques to celebrate the day. People also participated in processions and peace rallies.

This festival is celebrated to honour the birth and also the death of Prophet Mohammed. Coincidentally, the birth and death of Prophet Mohammed fall on the same day. Hence, instead of celebrating the day in a grand manner, people indulge themselves mostly in religious and social activities.
