Mangaluru: Firing at apparel store in Car Street - two taken into custody

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Dec 10: The shooting incident at a business establishment in the city on Friday night reminds one of the shootout at Bharathi Builders and Developers office at Bejai New Road in the city on March 2014. The shooting, presumably undertaken to threaten the concerned to cough up protection money, has happened after a gap of three and half years.

In the meanwhile, notorious fugitive, Kali Yogeesh, called a private news channel to say that he was responsible for the said incident and that such attacks will be undertaken in future too. The caller, who identified himself as Yogeesh, claimed that since the last two years, he had repeatedly placed demand with the owner of Sanjeeva Shetty Textiles at car street for payment of Rs 2 crore from him. He said he had to arrange for shootout as the businessman continued to ignore his warnings. He said that similar threat had been posed by him to Rajashree Jewellers, Kinnigoli.

An unidentified person had flashed his revolver at B D Ramachandra Acharya, owner of Rajashree Jewellers on Kinnigoli main road, at 7.30 pm on Thursday before fleeing. A complaint in this connection was lodged in Mulky police station on Saturay. In the complaint, Acharya said in his complaint that there was an incoming call on Friday morning in the cellphone belonging to his son. He informed the police on Friday night about the inident. Mulky stationlhouse officer, Anantapadmnabha, collected all information and conveyed details to his higher officers. Assistant commissioner of police, Rajendra, deputy commissioner of police, Hanumantharaya and other police personnel visited the spot and verified footage of two CCTV cameras in front of the shop. It is learnt that these cameras have been capturing only things happening close by and the identity of the man who showed his revolver could not be identified. Several CCTV cameras fitted on bus stand main road at Kinnigoli with the support of local banks and other businesses at Kinnigoly have become defunct, it is gathered.

On the basis of the telephonic call received, the police have taken into custody Ganesh, brother of Kali Yogeesh, and his friend, identified as Reetu, into custody for questioning. The police are yet to confirm whether Kali Yogeesh was actually behind this incident and whether the above was a fake call. In the earlier shootout incidents, accomplices of notorious criminals, Bannaje Raja and Vicky Shetty had been arrested.

The police believe that the criminal elements have begun to target other businessmen as the inflow from real estate sector has dried up as the builders are going through a lean patch now. They need money to run the gangs they have built over the years.

These extortionists might be targeting people only after being sure that the victim has big moneybags; n needless to say many of the victims might be quietly shelling out for fear of harm to them n their families!

GOD has created one to control another, Businessmen are looting the public like anything, inturn GOD has created someone to scare them because the governments are defunct. Governments themselves are on a looting spree by hand in gloves with the businessmen.
When does these underworld gangs target the corrupt Lawyers who make fortunes like anything. They make money without any record & they always demand payments in CASH. When does the government is going to regulate these corrupt lawyers? Why there is no POS machine to swipe in every Lawyer's office?

Thanks God its only threats, sporadic shootings and psychopaths trying to loot business. It will be delt with in Democratic INDIA. You will be safe - no worries.
Do not Justify sarcastically by connecting this to ISiS- in the name of Islam they have butchered people and mostly Muslims and there is no law that will bring any justice.
People in India and especially coastal regions ( except bhatkal and Kasargod) have enjoyed yrs of safety nd Luxury. but they still complain. ISIS is still recruiting and please people are welcome to try try out. its call Islam terror tourism and if you stay on you may even get paid! Women and Kids welcome.

This was the situation in Mumbai 9 years ago but now situation is such that if one such call is received then the culprit is arrested the very next day......Karnataka police has a lot to learn from Mumbai Police. Mumbai police hires even pan wallahs , cobblers etc as informers. There are around 8000 high resolution cameras monitoring the city. Even traffic is monitored on cameras and even fines are issued though digital methods.

I have lived in both states with my family. We feel much safer with Mumbai police than with Karnataka Police.....it's high time something has to be done in Karnataka.

Looking at the names mentioned, can assume as these are petty thieves not terrorists as such.
If the names were like mine, one MP would strive to prove that terrorists are active in Dakshina Kannada Dist.

    @ Rathan

"the inflow from real estate sector has dried up as the builders are going through a lean patch now"

Giving political angle to something unrelated does not help you in shutting up other intellectuals. Read the above phrase and understand the financial condition with businessmen. This is not created by sickular Khangress but by your 'SON of INDIA'. By his imposition of GST and Demonetization.

The situation has gradually transformed into goondaism and dacoity. Do not blame Sickularism and Khangress for this too.

    Why only in Karnataka ?
GST and demonization is not restricted to our state whole of India
For want of good govt and law and order situation these things happen
Today one more day murder in Bnglr
    Don't be too smart
Under sickulars and chaddiless these hafta / ransom is going on
Demonization had been reflected in UP election
Wait for 18th GST will also be approved by common man

You are right - GST is not in force only in Karnataka but the whole of India.

Similarly, killings/shootings are not dedicated just to Congress ruling states, it takes place in all states of India whether its ruled by Congress, BJP or any other party. Therefore your comment "Under sickulars khangress these anti social elements r having free day" is not appropriate too.
