Bengaluru: With Gujarat, Himachal elections over, focus shifts to Karnataka

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Dec 19: With the battle for supremacy having been concluded in both Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat, BJP and Congress would be shifting their focus on Karnataka, which will need a different game plan altogether. In Karnataka, there is heartburn among second rung leaders in both the camps, with discontent against the top leaders brewing within. There are rumours of several people of eminence changing loyalties at the last moment to teach a lesson to their respective leaderships.

During the victory celebrations, BJP national president, Amit Shah, announced that the next bastion the party wants to win would be Karnataka. He made this remark during his address to the party leaders and workers at the central office of the party at New Delhi. "We cannot rest, as our next target, Karnataka, is before us. Let us register victory there too," he said.

Siddaramaiah, Yeddyurappa and Kumaraswamy

Both Congress and BJP have challenges before them in Karnataka. While congress is facing anti-incumbency factor, which generally plays a major role during elections, BJP is grappling with discontent about Yeddyurappa's leadership style. Both the parties have already launched their respective campaigns in the state. The BJP, which has not been witnessing the vigour and zeal one expects from cadres in its election rallies, the current victory is expected to breath newfound enthusiasm into them at least now. The BJP leaders have another reason to grin and show more confidence during electioneering now. So far, they were unaware whether programmes like demonetization and GST regime, which created lot of problems for the people, went down well with the people or not. Now with victory in two states at a stretch, BJP leaders are confident that they can now boldly claim these two measures to be honest efforts that will have far-reaching positive impact for the country in the long run.

Dissident activities is one thing that has been common in both the parties. It is not a secret that Yeddyurappa's style of functioning is not liked by several leaders, while Eshwarappa alone is vocal about it. Congress too now has to put in extra efforts to quell dissidence in its rank and put up united show, as there is need for it to tread carefully after its calculations at Gujarat went awry. BJP leaders have been claiming that a few of Congress top rung leaders would hop to their party soon. JD(S) too has indicated that some Congress legislators would like to join hands with it.

Congress is confident that its initiative to give recognition to Lingayat as separate religion will result in votes of Lingayats, who it is felt, have been supporting Yeddyurappa till now, getting diverted to their party. At the same time, some leaders of the party are jittery over the actual outcome of this effort. Presence of JD(S) can disturb equations in several constituencies. Moreover, it has to be seen what influence will Rahul Gandhi have on the voters, as the new chief of the Congress will take part in selection process, lead the party through the electioneering and try to retain the only major state where his party is in power, in the capacity of the president of the party.

With Siddharamaiyya congress is best. Our state is best.We are recognised .North karnataka is given importance. Our coastal area has improved its road and transport infrastructure.

Now where is the question of getting BJP in karnataka's portrait.Do anyone know what sort of leaders are in BJP karnataka. One is fit to curse DK.One is in Sullia MP.Still i havenot seen any progress in Sullia. Not even any government building structure. If they wished they could have done a lot.

We are proud that we have educated ministers from congress.Calibre of shri Siddharamaiyya is equally proportional to Shri Narendra Modi.

If ever congress wins in centre ,then Sidhuji should be PM.He has done lots of developmental work.He has clean records ,when Declvegowda can be PM why not him?

Frankly i always yawn seeing any politicians from our state do speech ,but to this man I am hooked up.Best CM of Karnataka. He has good rapport with public .Man of his words.

Its quite important that in Karnataka all opposition parties must come to one Common platform of Development without any misunderstanding, if they have learned a lesson from GS and HP. Young leaders from these parties must work together and lead the state in offering a corruption free tangible developmental agenda.

The focus need to be on development of each and every person in the state. Infrastructure, Education, Employment and healthcare must be the centre of focus and working platform. Its appalling to note that BJP is fully working on dividing the people and destroying the opposition, which is not good for democracy and the rest are engaged within themselves. What about people?? who will take of them?

Karnataka is much different from Gujarat.
Here people remember misrule and corruption of last BJP Govt.
So unkept promises are going to back fire them.
Apart from that people are somewhat satisfied with the rule of Siddhu Govt except for some Bhagya's and Jayanti's.
Moreover, people here are quite conscious of adverse impact of demonetization, GST and The Financial Resolution and Deposit Insurance Bill, 2017. (FRDI)
More will depend upon Rahul Gandhi's selection of candidates and issues they are going to take up in the elections speeches.
All these factors will have impact in the voting patterns of the people.

BJP may win in Karnataka also, as the BJP's proxies JDS & AIMIM going to contest the election will help Modi brigade to boost. This small regional parties' main motive is defeat the Congress and make some money for their party's survivals.
If the people use their brain and not given the chance to divide the anti BJP votes and if the fight between only Congress v/s BJP, then the Congress will win with huge margin. OBC, 75% Vokkaligas, Kurubas, Minorities, Dalits and 90% Lingayats will vote for Congress. Hope for the best and we should not allow BJP to come to power in Karnataka.

The BJP’s ability to increase its vote share over 2012 is a triumph of sorts. The Congress will be disappointed it did not do better. It can argue that it at least demonstrated it has still got some fight left in it. But at the end of the day, this was not the triumphal moment that Rahul Gandhi would have hoped for. Far from it. He is still in the game, but the climb is going to be no less steep than it was before the election.
