Managaluru, Dec 20: The third season of Kudla Premier League (KPL) was inaugurated in a glittering ceremony at Urwa cricket ground on Tuesday, December 19.

Day-and-night underarm cricket matches will be held from December 19 to 24.

The tournament was inaugurated by Tejaswini Raj, Youth Congress leader, by lightning the lamp and releasing balloons into the sky. Fire crackers and traditional drumbeats added to the glitter of the inaugural ceremony.

Thilak, chairman, KPL, Uday Poojary Ballalbag, founder, Biruver Kudla, Pammi Kodialbail, film producer, Abhishek Amin Bikarnakatte, and Rakesh Poojary were the chief guests on the occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Tejaswiraj said, “KPL is the one of the events which brings players and their supporters together. This event supports unity, relationship and talents. It helps to adopt a culture of sportsman spirit leaving aside religion, politics, and regionalism. Members of ‘Friends Urva’ have successfully organised systematic cricket tournaments in last two years. This is the third year and hope it will be a memorable season for all underarm cricket fans.”

Thilak said, “This is a great opportunity for underarm cricket talents to prosper. We all watch cricket leagues in over arm format. Despite the dominance of over arm cricket, we especially people of Mangaluru, do not forget our own underarm cricket. The game is gaining more popularity and youth are attracted towards it. Hence, these types of tourneys will help our players to showcase their talents.”

RJ and cine actor Roopesh compered the programme.

Biruver Kudla, SDC Warriors, Urwa Bulls, Jugari Warriors, Red Hawks Mundana and Silverfox Kudla are the six that will vie for the winners’ trophy in KPL Season 3.

The winner of the tournament will take home prize money of Rs 3 lac and a trophy, while the second runner-up will bag Rs 2 lac. The man of the series will be awarded Rs 1 lac and the man of the match in the finals will be given Rs 25,000.
