Kalaburagi: Fight over baby boy after hospital mixes up newborns

Kalaburagi, Dec 21: Two newborns have been deprived of mother’s milk for over a week, after the District Government General Hospital in Kalaburagi mixed up the babies by mistake.

On December 14, the hospital performed five caesarian deliveries including that of Nandamma and Tajbee almost simultaneously. Nandamma was handed over a boy and Tajbee was handed over a girl by the nursing staff, while it should have been the other way around. However, a fight broke out when the nursing staff realized their mistake and asked Nandamma to hand over the boy.

Nandamma’s family was rejoicing the birth of a boy and refused to believe that she delivered a baby girl. They refused to accept the baby girl and Nandamma was reluctant to breast feed the baby.

The hospital staff took both the babies and fed them formula milk in the ICU. They conducted a blood test and the results proved that the baby girl was Nandamma’s. Even then the family refused to accept the newborn. Again a blood test was done in a private hospital which proved the same and the police were called to intervene into the matter. The SP had to convince Nandamma to accept and breast feed the baby girl. However, the family is still not satisfied with the results and has demanded a DNA test.

The hospital has been asked to fulfill the family’s demand so that the confusion can end and the babies can go back with their respective families.

The guidance of the Prophet Mohammed (peace and blessing be upon him) about raising girls are beautiful and amazing. Girl children come with great rewards and blessings. If you offer care, love, support and education to your girl child, Paradise awaits you.
“He who is tested with these girl children, and he is benevolent towards them, they will become protection for him against Hellfire“. (Muslim)

It is shocking to see that people are ready to throw their own baby girl and accept the wrong baby...... The perception among the people is very clear ... for male child. The hospital staff shown their efficiency by mixing up babies..... it is a very big blunder why there is no proper procedure to take care of babies to the right parents.

Yes, the DNA is the final solution here. King Solomon gave the judgement when one of the babies was dead.. Some mad people are so eager to have a boy, that I do not know what King Solomon would have done, without the facility of DNA then.

I don't think they'll ever accept the baby girl. It's better she is given to some foster care instead of being illtreated and neglected.

what a horrible mistake. It is logic that mothers will not accept later.Personal should have immediately after the caesarian marked the baby.or told the mother it was a male or female if mother was awake in case of PDA.such graved mistake happen in many hospitals.Hope now mothers will accept their child and treat them well.and family too.
