Mangaluru, Dec 24: Motor-bike borne miscreants fired at the residence of entrepreneur, M Nagaraj, near national highway 66 at Mulky before fleeing. The incident happened at 9 pm on Saturday December 23.

After the two arrived in a two-wheeler, the rider waited on the motor bike outside while the pillion rider entered the compound of Nagaraj's residence and fired two rounds. The bullets hit and damaged the main door of the house and bonnet of Nagaraj's car. The duo however fled before neighbours gathered there on hearing the sound of firing.

Nagaraj and his family members, who were inside the house at the time, turned fearful and called Mulky police.

Reportedly, Nagaraj had received calls demanding payment of protection money, but he had desisted from filing police complaint. The police personnel feel that accomplices of underworld fugitives would have been involved in this firing and that their motive perhaps was to pressurize the entrepreneur to cough up money by instilling fear in his mind.

City police commissioner, T R Suresh, deputy commissioner of police, Uma Prashanth, assistant commissioner of police, Rajendra and Uday Nayak, apart from Mulky police inspector, Anantapadmanabha, visited the spot and took up investigation.
