Bengaluru: Death sentence under consideration for rape convicts - home minister

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Dec 24: Karnataka home minister, Ramalinga Reddy, said that the government has taken incidents of rape happening in the state with all seriousness. He added that the government is actively considering the practicability of awarding death sentence to rapists in tune with the law currently in force in Madhya Pradesh.

Speaking to media persons on Saturday December 23, Reddy termed the gang rape and murder incident which happened recently at Vijayapura as heinous. "To regulate such inhuman incidents, we have asked the officials to get information about the law currently in force in Madhya Pradesh and consider the prospects of passing such a law in Karnataka. We will hold discussions with the chief minister on the possibility of adopting such a law," he clarified.

Reddy used this opportunity to lash out at Uttar Pradesh chief minister, Yogi Adityanath, who had criticized law and order situation in Karnataka, Tipu Jayanti etc, when addressing rally. "I want to remind him that crime rate in our state was six percent during BJP regime, which has come down to five percent now. Uttar Pradesh, with a crime rate of 11.5 percent, tops the country in terms of crime. Therefore, Yogi is advised to tackle the law and order situation in his state before poking nose in affairs of others. 80 newborns had died in one of the hospitals in Adityanath's state, and he is expected to work to provide justice to devastated families. We celebrate birth anniversaries of Lord Rama, Lord Krishna and others, not Tipu alone," he retorted.

About progress in investigation into the murder of journalist, Gauri Lankesh, he said that the special team is working on it, and exuded confidence of nabbing the culprits shortly.

Rapists should not have any place in the society.
Capital punishment is the only way to control or limit the spread of rape epidemic in the society. Thousands of victims would have been saved so far.

Sanghi elements carry a different ideology than PFI, KFD and Congress. Hence they will not be interested in releasing of any culprits. BJP MLAs will not hold press conference asking for the release either!

Surely Sanghi and anti-sanghi can never have same ideology.
Holding protests depends on political mileage and instructions from Nagpur.

Shobha was batting for rapists. Rapists should be killed immediately. We don't want rapists in our society. Also, strict action should be taken against those ignite communal violence in the society and also corrupt should not be spared.
