Bengaluru, Dec 27: To protect women from drunken revelers on New Year’s Eve, an all-women platoon consisting of 120 women constables have been trained in anti-riot operations.

The platoon will be will make its debut at the New Year’s Eve celebrations on M G Road and Brigade Road. The platoon attached to the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) has undergone nine months of training and are prepared to deal with unruly situations.

The 2017 New Year’s Eve celebrations in Bengaluru hit headlines after many women complained about molestation incidents. The city cops were criticized for failing to handle the boisterous crowds. The police department is extra-cautious this year. “We cannot afford a single unruly incident as the city police commissioner T Suneel Kumar has assured the High Court that celebrations will be safe and secure,” said a senior police official.
