Anant Kumar Hegde apologises for 'constitution change' comments

New Delhi, Dec 28 (IANS): Union Minister Anant Kumar Hegde tendered an apology in the Lok Sabha on Thursday for his statement on changing the Constitution, even as he maintained that his comments were "put out of context".

Soon after the House met, Hegde said: "I deeply respect the Constitution, Parliament and Babasaheb Ambedkar. The Constitution is supreme for me, there can be no question on it, as a citizen I can never go against it."

Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, however, said that Hegde had spoken against Ambedkar.

Speaker Sumitra Mahajan then urged the member to apologise. "Sometimes in life we feel what we have said is right, but others may still get hurt," she said.

Hegde then extended an apology and said: "My words have been twisted and presented, I never said all this... But if someone was hurt, I apologise to those members."

The Union Minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship at a function in Kukanur in Karnataka on Monday urged people to "claim with pride that they are Muslim, Christian, Lingayat, Brahmin, or a Hindu".

He said: "Those who, without knowing about their parental blood, call themselves secular, they don't have their own identity...They don't know about their parentage, but they are intellectuals.

"Some people say the Constitution says secular and you must accept it. We will respect the Constitution, but the Constitution has changed several times and it will change in the future too. We are here to change the Constitution and we'll change it soon."

The comments led to disruptions in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on Wednesday when Parliament met after a four-day-long break.

Mr. Hegde must quit immediately. He took the oath to " preserve, protect and defend the Constitution and the law and that I will devote myself to the service and well being of the people of India”., under false pretenses. He and his party are a danger to the Indian republic. The Election Commission should prohibit any political party which is an enemy of Constitutional values from contesting elections.

I am just loving the whole episode

Hegde had said constitution needs to be changed
Hedge also had said he always respects normal people, but has questioned the sicklar brigade on their parentage.

Today in Parl, he said he respects constitution and said sorry if someone is hurt, With a grand smile!!

What does this mean? you did not withdraw your statement? You stick to your statement and just sorry for hurting people by telling truth? So you continue to question their parentage?

Ayyoo ayyoo The confused sickalar brigade already showing victory sign.. such a pity!

Indian Constitution excerpt of article 60 reads as “…….the best of my (president) ability preserve
protect and defend the Constitution and the law and that I will devote myself to the service and well being of the people of India”.
All ministers and Prime Ministers who take office in India make this promise: “I do swear in the name of God that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the Constitution of India as by law established, that I will uphold the sovereignty and integrity of India, that I will faithfully and conscientiously discharge my duties... and that I will do right to all manner of people in accordance with the Constitution and the law without fear or favour, affection or ill-will.”
This oath is taken from the Constitution’s third schedule. There is also an oath of secrecy that the minister “will not directly or indirectly communicate or reveal to any person or persons any matter which shall be brought under my consideration or shall become known to me except as may be required for the due discharge of my duties as such minister.”
All the focus in the oath is on that line about “unity and integrity of India”. That is sacred and those who are accused of violating that sentiment, even verbally, will be thrashed, again without trial. The rest of it, the bearing of faith and allegiance to the Constitution of India as by law established, is incidental.
The President of India should be answerable to the nation.
How long PM Modi will maintain 'Maun Vrat' told Parliament on that the religion of the government was “India first” and the Constitution its “holy book.”?
Oath has got legal significance in terms of impeachment or fine as prescribed in Indian Constitution.
It is serious violation of 'Oath of office' for which 'sorry' is small word.

Please listen to his original speech. He is not talking about normal individuals who can practice whatever faith they feel like. He is addressing a spefic set of people. .Those who under the garb of secilaism, do a daily abuse of our faith, our God, our scriptures.. I hope you know the set of people that belong to this category. For instance jurno Lankini herself has once abused hindus saying they don't have parentage..
