Mangaluru: 28-year-old Wilson D’Souza dies in scooter accident at Katipalla

Mangaluru, Dec 29: In a road accident that occurred at Kaikamba near Katipalla, a youth lost his life on the spot on Thursday, December 28.

Wilson D’Souza (28) from Katipalla is the person deceased. He is survived by parents and three elder sisters.

As per details available, at around 5.30 pm on Thursday, Wilson left his home to go to his friend’s hotel situated at Katipalla. After having the tea from there he moved towards Kaikamba on scooter to purchase a tube light for his friend’s hotel.

When he reached near Katipalla Temple, an old man suddenly crossed the road. To avoid hitting the man, Wilson applied brake and the scooter skidded. Wilson was thrown out on the road at that time and breathed his last on the spot.

Wilson was working in Bahrain and had come to native on two months vacation.

    Yet another precious life lost, but nobody wakes up to the reality that it is we who are responsible for these tragedies - civic authorities and vehicle users. Everyone finds solace in blaming everyone else. However, for the civic authorities, citizens' safety and wellbeing are never a priority. Citizens just blame civic authorities for the sorry state of affairs, but will never join hands to make them accountable and deliver the goods. On the other hand, despite knowing the pathetic state of roads and traffic conditions, people give scant regard to safe driving - wearing helmets and seat belts, abiding by traffic rules and sticking to speed limits. Defensive driving is alien to Indian drivers.

    Contributing Factors for the road accidents are as follows:
    1. Lack of Traffic Rules implementation
    2.Bad Road or Lack of road maintenance
    3. Competition or Show up rides/country Pride
    4. Aged Vehicles

    It is a high Time to apply Break on the- Break Pads..so many accidents in such a small town, everybody wants to see Next Day Light.

    My humble request to those are in abroad coming on Vacation avoid riding 2 Wheelers cause you need more practice before riding 2 Wheelers on Indian roads. My sincere Condolences to the deceased family members.

    Two wheeler companies in India are the best profit makers in Auto industry. But sadly the roads and public using the roads ,both pedestrian and vehicle owners do not have sufficient road safety education and cause lots of deaths of young men below the age of 40..Young men coming on vacation from abroad
    . please refrain from driving two wheeler s as much as possible even though you used to ride while you were in India.Use a hired vehicle and go back safely..

    Please look at the incident reported. Wilson sacrificed his life to save the life of an old man crossing the road, a man he never knew.
