Mangaluru Dec 29: Complaints poured in about the street vendors obstructing the traffic movement at Central Market which led to traffic congestion, during the 68th police phone-in programme, here on Friday, December 29.

Responding to this, Police Commissioner T R Suresh assured," Police department and MCC will form a team to deal with the street vendors and make way for smooth functioning of traffic at central market. The drive will be regularly implemented”.

A caller from Attavar suggested placing a circle near the Railway station junction where roads from Falnir, Attavar and Hampanakatta join. Placing a circle will reduce the traffic congestion and will make the road more safe. Suresh responded saying," We will look into this matter and analyse the area and decide whether to put up a circle or not".

A caller from Derebail demanded a bus to Land Links area where over 2000 people reside. It is difficult for people to commute to the city. There is only one bus to Land Links are so we demand to put additional bus to that route, the caller said. "We will discuss with Road Transport Authority to put additional buses on that route,” responded Suresh.

A caller from Ladyhill requested to install a speed breaker on Ladyhill - Urwa market road as vehicles come at high speed and the area has become accident prone. ”We can place a speed breaker on cross road that connects the main road. Placing a speed breaker on the main road will be difficult. However, the area will be inspected and if we feel a speed breaker is required we will definitely place it,” the police commissioner said.

A caller from Bejai requested to install a speed breaker near Church Road there. He also pointed out that bus No’s 19 and 15 are not issuing tickets to the passengers, even though there is a rule. “Tickets should be issued in every private bus and if anyone is found flouting rules, the citizens should get the matter to the notice of the department,” said Suresh.

A caller from Urwa market complained that customers of Quality Bar are parking vehicles on either side of the road. Many have food in their vehicle itself.

A caller from Pumpwell complained about the traffic jam at Pumpwell. As the old road to Kankanady has been closed, it leads to traffic congestion. He also urged to divert the heavy goods vehicles and restrict them from entering the city. “The work was supposed to finish in two months. The slow work is affecting smooth flow of traffic. We request the concerned authority for the speedy work of old Kankanady road,” the Police Commissioner requested.

A caller from Derebail complained about the auto drivers demanding excessive fare to travel to Derebail. Police commissioner T R Suresh said, ”If auto rickshaws are found charging excessive fare note down the registration of the vehicle and complain. Based upon the complaint, stringent action will be taken against the driver”.
Twelve calls were received during phone-in-programme.

ACP Traffic Manjunath, Traffic Police Sukumaran, Bus owners association secretary Ramachandra were present.
