The circle will be demolished to pave way for traffic signal for efficiently managing the ever-increasing traffic congestion in the area and ease the dificulties faced by commuters in safely negotiating the circle.
The traffic police have planned to remove the circle during the process of concreting the Bunts Hostel road upto Jyoti Circle, proposed to be taken up soon, by utilizing funds made available by the State Finance Commission. The Bunts' Association too has given its nod for this proposal. The traffic police had even in the past approached Mangalore city corporation with a request to remove the circle.
Bunts' Association president Amarnath Shetty has said that the Association is in agreement for the removal of this landmark for public convenience. However, the Association wants to build a permanent landmark within the vicinity of the circle to signify the existence of Bunts Hostel Circle, which has been in existence for over 100 years and has carved out a place for itself in the hearts of Mangalore citizens.
There are a few others, including past president of Bunts' Association Ajit Kumar Rai Malady who feel that there is no necessity to remove the circle structure and that it does not pose any traffic problems in its present form.
