Kundapur: 36-year-old killed on spot as bus rams into bike at Tallur

Kundapur, Jan 6: A head-on collision between a bus and a bike on NH-66 at Tallur here on Saturday January 6 claimed the life of the bike rider.

The deceased has been identified as Ravindra Acharya (36), son of Laxman Acharya, a resident of Neralakatte.

On Saturday morning, he was riding from Kundapur towards Hemmady to his workplace when a speeding private bus plying from Hemmady lost control and rammed straight into Ravindra's bike. The impact of the collision was such that Ravindra died on the spot.

Ravindra was employed in the wood industry.

He got married just a year ago and leaves behind his wife and child.

The police took the bus driver into custody for questioning.

Kundapur traffic police have registered a case.

    It is unfortunate that there are any number of accidents caused by reckless bus drivers. It appears that The Udupi District is now in the grip of these kind of deaths caused by reckless driving. Mr. Nimbargi has just taken over as the S.P. from Mr. Sanjiv Patel and he already is having a taste of the situation in the district.

    For a long time talk is going on regarding installation of speed governors and hope something will be done in this respect.

    This has become a routine now.

    Many accidents happen in highways and people die or get injured. Police come and book a case and life goes on.

    No precautionary steps or measures to stop or reduce these kind of accidents. Authorities like RTO, Road authorities and Police are completely passive on these things. They do not care for people's life.

    Road authorities build unscientific roads or violate safety standards.

    RTO do not revise licensing system or conduct safety awareness program for drivers specially for public transport drivers. Penal system is not adequate for erring drivers.

    Police should take stringent action against erring drivers and also conduct awareness program.

    Sad incident. Especially for the family and the child. Some of the bus drivers on Indian roads think they are licensed to drive and kill. What's our RTA doing ? Why cant they discipline the erring drivers. In European and Gulf countries there is something called compensation/ blood money.
