Kathmandu, Jul 21: Veteran Nepali Congress leader Ram Baran Yadav has been elected as the first President of Nepal.

Voting for the Presidential poll in Nepal began in Kathmandu on Monday morning, a day after the two main Indian-origin candidates failed to garner clear majority on Sunday.

Ram Baran Yadav, an ethnic Madhesi leader and Nepali Congress candidate, was widely expected to win Sunday's Presidential poll in the 594-member Constituent Assembly.

The smaller parties like Rashtriya Jan Morcha and Nepal Workers and Peasants Party are reported have voted in favour of Yadav, sources said.
