Mangaluru, Jan 8: As many as 18 students of Center for Advanced Learning (CFAL) have been selected to the 2nd stage national-level Olympiads leading to international level.

Among the 18, Pratyush Prashanth is the topper in Karnataka in physics, while Shreesha G Bhat and Pratyush Prashanth are the second toppers in Karnataka in Astronomy.

In an interation session with the media at CFAL premises here on Monday January 8, Severine Rosario, principal of CFAL welcomed said, "Our students have proved that it is possible for Mangaluru students to be among the top 1% of their peer group. CFAL has the best results in Olympiads with the highest number of selections in the region.There were no selections from Mangaluru for Olympiads earlier. In 2009, after the inception of CFAL, three students of Mangaluru were selected - two in mathematics and one in chemistry. In 2017, this number rose to 18. All these students were undergoing training at CFAL, Mangaluru.

"The Indian National Olympiad (INO) is a platform to select talented students in the specified subjects and from across the country through National Standard Examinations and selection camps to form a 5-6 member teams competing at international Olympiads.

"In 2017, our student Aditya Prakash was one among the six students to represent India in the International Math Olympiad held in Brazil. This is a great achievement for a student from Mangaluru," she said.

Shreesha Bhat, a plus-two student expressed his joy on getting selected to the 2nd stage and said, "I am extreamly happy on securing a good position in the first stage. I never felt it was a tough competition because CFAL trained me very well. Majority of questions in the competition examine the knowledge of the subject we have chosen. So we need to gain this knowledge by hardwork by reading great researchers and authors related to the subject."

Prathyush Prashanth, a second PU student said, "The teachers of CFAL are the best. They too dream that their students should get high positions and become respectful citizens in society, and they teach with this in mind. I never thought I would enter second stage. But proper preparation through CFAL helped me achieve this. I will put in all my efforts into the next stage and will try to enter the world Olympiad."
