Higher Price for MSEZ Land - NRI Delegation, Local Leaders Meet CM

Bangalore, Jul 22: An NRI delegation of Kuwait, headed by Pascal B Pinto and local congress leaders visited chief minister B S Yeddyurappa on Monday July 21 and demanded higher prices for the land acquired for the Mangalore Special Economic Zone.

The delegation asked the chief minister to pay Rs 21 lac per acre as compensation to those who sacrifice their fertile land for Mangalore Special Economic Zone (MSEZ). The delegation also asked him to initiate steps for de-notifying the lands if there are no plans to set up MSEZ here immediately.









Speaking on the occasion Yeddyurappa assured them that the MSEZ will come into existence within a few months despite the opposition it has been facing. He also pomised to consider an increase in the price of lands which would be acquired for MSEZ in Permude, Ekkar and Kalavar villages.

The delegation had a total of 15 members, including former MLA Vijaykumar Shetty, KIADB officer T Sham Bhat, MSEZ officer I N S Prasad and a few senior officers.

    It's not probably a good logic to compare Rs.5 crore/acre within city limits to Rs.21 lakhs offered to farmers. It sends out a wrong signal. But, I agree that these farmers need to be compensated well - It's not just the land - it's the livelihood.

    It is indeed heart rending to hear that people from various walks of life instead of looking into the matter how the acquisition of land is portrayed they help people procure more from the government. Usually this land is portrayed as barren land by the land acquisition officers or bodies appointed to provide the report where as they are not. Most of the land is fertile and can yield crops of various kinds, and also there is displacement of families.

    Why people like pascal pinto not find out why the hue and cry is all about than help them procure more money for the land. Pascal I would sincerely appreciate if you can really look into the matter of such acquisition of land which is being portrayed as barren, where as in fact it is not. As goes a saying " Teach a man to fish, dont give him fish" This is no opposition to the government against development it is helping people to be self sufficient and independant than make them beg for alms from the government.

    Great job Mr.Pascal. We need a person like you to go head with helping our people. Any how our MLA'S are thinking about their own pockets rather compensating the people who is losing the lands and daily bread. The price Rs 21lacs per acre is hot that great amount but it is reasonable for those poor farmers. Prices in Mangalore city is $5 crores per acre on the basis of that $21lacs are realy not a great amount.
