Mangalore, Jul 29: The additional baggage x-ray facility installed at Bajpe international airport was inaugurated by deputy commissioner (DC) Maheshwar Rao, on Tuesday, July 29.

The earlier baggage x-ray facility was installed in the departure and arrival lounge and was inaugurated by Dr Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Sri Kshetra Dharmastala Manjunatheshwar, a few days ago.

The additional x-ray has been installed to speed up screening of baggage after the increase in the number domestic and international flights in recent times. Moreover, till the exclusive international terminus becomes operational in 2009 at Kenjar, near Maravoor, these additional facilities will benefit the passengers.

M R Vasudev, airport director, Chellamprasad, Mangalore chief, Air India Express (AIE), Nagesh Shetty, Mangalore chief of Indian, officers of the Airports Authority of India (AAI), AIE, and staff of private airlines were present on the occasion.

I agree with Mr Jerry Moras. Nothing comes free. Lets not forget the day light robbery of AIE in the name of 'economy fare'. Well, the good works of all, including Mr Vasudev, definitely needs appreciation.

Well, I agree with Jerry Moras comments. There is no surprise, these machinaries are part of the infrastructure of the Int'l Airport. There are still lot of things need to be done by the Airport Authorities. Our thanks to all those who actively taken part in this wonderful project.

Come-on Jerry, Be reasonable. Please try to appreciate Mr. Vasudev Rao’s efforts, in putting things together to have second runway on top of that hill. Nobody expected the landing of an international flight in this hill top airport. People claim many things but, very few like Mr. Vasudev Rao show the work. Let us wish him good luck in his future endeavor.

Mr Jerry Moras, Even though what you say is technically correct, it does not apply today in India. If you go about claiming your rights, you will only end up at the receiving end. In Indian only might is right. Are you able to get even the basic amenities at our bus stations, railway stations, public utilities etc etc?. Has anyone been able to fight and get them?

Therefore we should appreicate the efforts of Mr Vasudev and his team who have done so much to improve the conditions at Mangalore airport. If Mr Vasudev is allowed to continue for a few more years, I am sure that Mangalore airport will be  envied by the entire nation.

I think now purchase of Baggage X-Ray machine is operational costs to run the Int’l airport. It is a need and not a luxury for Mangalore airport. For the first time, yes it was exciting news as Mangalore airport authorities never seen such machines. It is like when you buy computer for the first you get excited.

I remember law of diminishing utility learnt in my college. We, customers of Mangalore airport pay airport tax so that proper setup is made and hence it is a part of infrastructure We are not receiving from anyone. It is airport authorities’ job to have proper infrastructure and keep the customers happy and they are paid for that job.

When you go to Mangalore airport all of us feel proud because we were deprived of the opportunities earlier. Hence, don't get carried away as nothing has come for free. I think airport upgrading, flying flights to gulf by Air India Express has become old news now…
