Mangalore: Slapping Incident at St Aloysius College - Both Parties Call Truce

Mangalore, Aug 2: Principal of St Aloysius College Fr Swebert D'Silva clarified to the media that he had not slapped the second year BBM student Amogh alleged, but had only pinched his ear. My nails came into contact with his skin and he got a gash as a result, in the back of his ear, he explained. The student is said to have undergone treatment at the government Wenlock Hospital here as an outpatient.
The principal added that only the under-graduate classes were disrupted after first two classes and post-graduate classes went on smoothly. After the students chose to stay away from the classes after 11 am, holiday was declared for the under-graduate classes, he informed.
Amogh had said that the watchman had snatched away his identity card and produced him in the principal's chamber for riding in a reckless manner in the campus premises. He was driving fast as he was late, he explained.
St Aloysius Institutions Rector Fr Francis Serrao chaired a meeting of student leaders and lecturers in the evening. Fr Serrao later informed that the students were given an assurance from him that such incidents do not recur in future in the college and that he had personally assured them in this regard. The issue is settled following the meeting, he said, adding that the principal too has apologized for the incident.
