Udupi, Aug 5: 'Aatidonji Dina', an important traditional observation of Tulu culture, was organized at Kaup Bhaskar Soudha on Monday August 4 under the aegis of JCI Kaup.

Stage director Kaup Leeladhar Shetty, who inaugurated the function held on this occasion, praised JCI, an organization having international presence, for celebrating Tulu culture by picking up one of the local cultural practices. Programmes like these help people living in villages to introduce the Tulu culture which is strongly embedded among rural folk, to the citizens living in urban areas where the traditions are fading, he felt.

Kaup JCI president Jagadish Bangera presided. Jaceerette president Sukhalakshi Bangera, programme director Uday G, JCI past president Vinay Katpadi etc., were present.

Dandateerta College vice-principal Neelanand Nayak delivered introductory address. JCI members had taken pains to prepare various traditional Tulu food preparations at their homes for the occasion and served the same to all the persons present, on plantain leaves. In true Tulu style, people squatted on the floor and shared the rare delicacies and enjoyed the original taste of the mouth-watering varieties of food items. The hard work put in by JCI members in ensuring that the dishes were made in a traditional way, was evident to every one who participated in the programme.

Over 30 varieties of food were served on the occasion. Some of them were Gatti made from jack fruit, soup made from horse gram, pickles made from marinated raw jack fruit, dishes made from tender greens, rice semia, horse gram chutney, pickles, dishes made of lentils, okra, ridge gourd, bitter gourd etc.
