Mangaluru, Mar 1: Bharathi Defence and Infrastructure Limited (BDIL) handed over ICG C-162, an interceptor boat to the Coast Guard at their BDIL yard here on Thursday, March 1. It is the sixth of a series of 15 high speed interceptor boats delivered by BDIL.
DIG H P Singh, Coast Guard principal director (Material), DIG Atul Parlikar (TM), CGRPS Goa, DIG (Rtd) Narendra Kumar, chief operating officer, BDIL, Pavithran Alokkan, president and head, BDIL, Mahesh, general manager, BDIL and other senior officials of Coast Guard and BDIL were present.
Deputy commandant Pawan Koyar and deputy commandant Sushanth Deshmukh gave the report on the new boat to DIG H P Singh. After the verification of the report, DIG accepted the boat and handed over the acceptance letter.
The delivered vessel is 28 mtrs in length with an aluminum hull, weighs about 60 DWT and is designed for a speed up to 35 knots. It is fitted with a new generation of Arneson Surface Drive (ASD) propulsion system, which is propelled by two engines of 1650 kW each. The vessel can accommodate 11 member crew members and is used mainly for patrolling purposes. The vessel will be based at Kochi and deputy commandant Pawan Koyar will be the commanding officer of ICG C-162. Deputy commandant Sushanth Deshmukh is the project officer for these series vessels from CGRPT (Goa).
The vessel was launched on January 31, 2018 as Vessel V-410 and within a short span of 28 days, has completed harbour and sea trials successfully with a speed more than the contractual speed of 35 knots.
The company was admitted to Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP) under Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code 2016(IBC) with Dhinal Shah, being appointed as Resolution Professional (RP). The successful delivery of this vessel with in a very short span of 28 days after launching even under severe financial limitations comes as a short in the arm for the company and RP, since it was accomplished on challenging fund constrained situation.
It may be recalled, the Mangaluru shipyard of BDIL had successfully delivered its fifth interceptor boat to C-161 to Indian Coast Guards on November 10, 2017.
