Kundapur: Govt Nod for Jungle Lodge and Resort Venture in Ottinene

Mangalore, Aug 13: The state government has some good news for tourists. The administration is seeking to make Karnataka the next 'God's own country'! Finally the state government seems to have woken up to the potential that beach tourism in the state holds. 

There is a proposal on the anvil for a 'Coastal Ring' project in order to compete with neighbouring states of Kerala and Goa.  The plan for a Jungle Lodge and Resort (JLR) venture spread over 10 hectares of land to be set up at an estimated cost of Rs 3 crore at Ottinene,near Kundapur has got the nod from the government. 

The resort will have 20 cottages, personnel residences, and water sports. N D Thivari, managing director of JLR, said that construction work will begin soon after the monsoon season.







There will also be a golf club sprawling along 150 acres of land and it will be the first golf club established on the seashore. But the approval for the golf club is yet to be received from the central government.

The project aims at development of beach tourism throughout the 320 km stretch of coast by establishing Jungle Lodge and Resort (JLR) and golf club. There is a plan to spend Rs 9 crore on developing Mangalore, Udupi, Ullal, Maravanthe, Kaup, and Karwar beaches. .

Sources from the tourism department said that the project aimed at establishing better connectivity, public toilets, water parks and children's park on the beaches.

I love very much our coastal area and always praying God to save our coastal area. I would like to request you before going to make tourist place of our coastal area, kindly try to save our coastal area by Arabian Sea.

    Tourism is a great source of revenue/income. We should definitely work on making this dream come true. If the govt realizes that the city is being used extensively by locals and tourists, then definitely everything will fall in place.Not to forget the job opportunities.

    Ottine, chilmie and Someshwar these are beautiful places to develop in to tourist attractions. My child hood dream will be fullfilled if governement consider a hospital or colllege near ottinene height.

    To get tourist to come to south kanara, the state government has to first resolve to build roads upto the standards of the new national highway. Secondly,it has to emphasise on clean toilets, good restaurants on the highways. Looking at the present state of the roads right from Yellapur to Mangalore proper I don't think that any government in Bangalore are interested in improving infrastructure in South Kanara.

    Another reason that this state of affairs will continue for many more years to come is because our people do not question our elected representatives, who are always busy cutting ribbons or lecturing people in one seminar or other.

    The pathetic conditions of our roads has resulted in serious and fatal accidents on a daily basis.NGO's should regulary bombard the D.C'S office with complaints about the state of affair's. The much needed changes for the better can be brought about only by the people of South Kanara. They should never ever be carried away by the so called elected representative hollow promises.

    Finally,I repeat Finally some one has taken action to beautify our beautiful coastal area. How many governemnts came and gone and no one was bothered to put our land on the tourist Map. For many years our beaches are left rotten and hardly any action has been taken to improve them. I hope this venture will finish as promised and one day we will have something to cheer about our land.

    Mr. Saldanha, we the public have high hopes from all the governments. But everytime the ministers fill their coffers and are least bothered about development work. If the present government would stop their internal bickering and get down to ridding the state of corruption it would be a big achievement. Let us reserve the praises till we see some developments from this government,

    I am very happy to read so many developmental initiatives by the present state government. We hope to see our coastal Karnataka coming up in a big way and attract millions of tourists from all over the world. In a way, God is expanding his/her territory from the backwaters of Kerala to coastal Karnataka...waiting to be registered by Eddi-u-appa as 'God's own country no.2' before his term ends.
