Puttur: Six Labourers Feared Drowned at Neerakatte Hydel Power Project Site

Puttur, Aug 13: In a tragic and unforeseen incident, six persons who were working for Neerakatte Power Project, located five kilometres from Uppinangady went missing, after torrential rains inundated the entire area on the intervening night between Tuesday August 12 and 13.

All the six hail from Nellur in Andhra Pradesh. They were in the pumpshed of Neerakatte Power Project on night duty. The flash floods caused by torrential rains submerged the entire area. The water also entered the pumpshed through its shutters.

Efforts are on to search the missing persons. Rising levels of water and the intensity of the draught of the floodwaters has made the task of fishing out the missing persons difficult. Search operations are on and expert divers are making all out efforts to rescue the workers, even though the chances of their survival are very remote.

The names of the missing persons are Dore Babu, Chentalaiah, Venu, Ramakrishna, Jayaram and Subbaiah Reddy.
