Bengaluru: Appoint Hindu priest at Bababudangiri or face stir, C T Ravi warns govt

Bengaluru, Mar 4 (DHNS): The state BJP, on Sunday, warned that it would launch a stir against the government if it failed to appoint a Hindu priest at the controversial cave shrine of Bababudangiri in Chikkamagaluru district.

There is no dispute on the shrine since it is already the Muzrai department's property. The matter was settled long ago as per court order. Instead of appointing a Hindu priest, the government has tried to mislead people by saying that it has decided to bring the shrine under the department, state BJP general secretary C T Ravi told reporters here.

The Supreme Court had, in 2014, directed the government to appoint Hindu priests as per the recommendation of the Muzrai department commissioner. The government had assured the court that it would do so after holding talks with all stakeholders. But the Congress government chose not to appoint the priest in order to appease minorities, he charged.

Ravi, the Chikkamagaluru MLA, said Justice Nagamohan Das was biased in submitting his report on the issue of granting separate religion status to Lingayats. "We all know how he submitted a report on the issue of separate religion tag for Lingayats. He writes the report as dictated by the government," he charged.

The state Cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday decided to accept the Justice Nagamohan Das committee report.

Grain campaign from today

This apart, the state BJP will launch its 'Mushti Akki Abhiyana' (fistful grain campaign) from Monday to reach out to farmers ahead of the Assembly elections, party leader Shobha Karandlaje said.

The party leaders will visit all 6,028 Gram Panchayats and collect grain from households of farmers. This is being done in order to forge an emotional bonding with the farmers of the state, she added.

The party workers have been asked to past stickers having a picture of state party president B S Yeddyurappa on the doors of all houses. Those who wish to join the party would be invited by presenting them a green shawl, she added.

The campaign is also an effort to position Yeddyurappa, who is the BJP's chief ministerial candidate, as the leader of the farming community. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the campaign during his recent visit to Davangere.

Shobha said Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath would attend the valedictory of the party's 'Mangaluru Chalo' yatra on March 6.

For decades, the syncretic shrine has been a pilgrimage spot for the two faiths. While Hindus consider the hill to be the final resting place of Dattatreya, the Muslim community believe the dargah is one of the earliest centres of Sufism in south India, with Sufi saint Dada Hayat Mirkalandar having lived there for years.
But over the years, the BJP, Bajrang Dal, VHP and other outfits have been demanding that the shrine be declared a Hindu temple.
In 2008, the Supreme Court reiterated that the status quo should be maintained at the shrine in response to a plea by members of the Komu Souharda Vedike (Forum for Communal Harmony). In 2015 the Supreme Court had disposed the case.
Every year, in the month of December, the Bajrang Dal, Vishwa Hindu Parishad and other Hindu groups organise a massive procession at Inam Dattatreya Peeta, located in Chikkamagaluru’s Bababudangiri Hills as a part of Datta Jayanti celebrations. Aa massive procession was held on Datta Jayanti, the birthday of Hindu god Dattatreya, who is considered to be the incarnation of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. None of the authentic Hindu scriptures justifies the Sangh Parivar version. Nor Vedas consider one of the oldest holy book say so.
But BJP seems to be keen finding Hindu in Sufi 11th-century Sufi, Dada Hayath (Abdul Azeez Macci)who introduced Coffee from Yemen. This nothing but BJP's Ayodhya in Karnataka. One of the easiest way to attract majority votes engaging religious sentiment. Hindutva is the only development this region has saw under present MLA.

Creating JOB and other facilities are the duties of the existing Govt who is ruling in Karnataka.. that is why they are elected... Religious matters in Hindu temples are to be resolved by Hindu priest/Acharya/Swamijis. If Govt does not have capacity to deliver the needs of people - Drinking wate, Job, Roads, Schools, Hospitals etc... why you are in chair... Pl. QUIT... Sidrama tried to play breaking Shaivas and Lingayats in Northern Karnataka... and there by mint some votes from both sides ... it failed... Who is doing divide and rule policies ?

Every religion has its own way of worshiping and offering prayers. Who will allow a church prayer to be perfomed by Hindu/muslim ? Who will allow a Hindu/christian to perform prayer in mosque ? So.. pl stop your preaching to others ... and dont insult us and our way of prayer. In Church a father delivers his offering and prayers, Mukri offers prayers in Mosque... so a hindu priest should do the rituals as per Hindu beliefs in Temples... stop your blah blah.. like a illiterate man ...

As per the verdict of Supreme Court in 2014, ownership of the site is already vested with Muzarai Department and is out of scope of a debate.

Now, let us focus on the impropriety of continuing a muslim priest and rituals at a religious place under the control of muzarai department.

If this practice is accepted, they will demand such postings and rituals in all religious places under the control of Muzarai Department. It is a matter of faith and is highly unacceptable by any standards.....!

    About BABA BUDAN
Baba Budan was a 16th-century Sufi, revered by both Muslims and Hindus, whose shrine is at Baba Budangiri, Chikkamagalur, Karnataka, India. He is said to have introduced the coffee plant to India by bringing seven raw beans from the port of Mocha, Yemen while coming back from Haj. In those days coffee was exported to other parts of the world in roasted or baked form so that no one could grow their own and were forced to buy from the Yemenis. He brought seven beans because the number 7 is considered sacred in Islam. The coffee plants were then raised at the place that bears his name.

bjp is indian version of British. divide and rule.
without religion bjp will not get deposit money in any elections in india.
so they want to provoke public, so that they can have hidden scams.
modi don't want to disclose, even after RTI, how much money he wasted in his luxury tours.
only when election time, these bjp ministers will remember, ram mandir, baba budan giri and all. other time enjoying their luxury life with fake tears.

bababudangiri is a example of hindu-muslim unity. when i visited the place last year i saw hindus and muslims praying together without disturbing each other. some people had even put tents outside and were interacting with each other..sharing food etc. and this dirty minded bjp people want to communalise this too!! for gods sake just leave this beautifull place alone....dont ruin the unity there.....this proves how cheap bjp can become to gain power!

Aren't you politicians have no other job than bringing up religious flaws ? If a priest is less, will the people starve ? Go man, work so that water will be preserved, impending drought will be evaded. Create rural education facilities so that runaway/beggar children will be less. Create jobs for the poor so that there will be less hungry and anemic people in the state.

Don't take the salary and misuse it for creating poison in peoples' minds !
