Uppinangady: Tragedy in Hydel Plant; Six Dead, Loss Put at 50 Crore

Uppinangady, Aug 14: The mini hydel power project was supposed to start its operation within 15 days in Neerakatte near Uppinangady. But a flood has destroyed the entire power plant leaving six people dead on Wednesday, August 13.
Three of the bodies have been recovered from the flooded river. They have been identified as Venu, Dereswami, and Penchayda. All three are said to have hailed from Andhra Pradesh.
The project owned by Sagar Power Corporation began operations four years ago with an investment of Rs 100 crore. A total of seven labourers were putting the finishing touches to the power plant.
When two of the labourers came to know that the Netravati river was overflowing, they went to open the gate walls of the dam. But the heavy force of the water broke the gate wall. Venkateswaralu of Andhra Pradesh, had a lucky escape but his companion drowned.
