Mangaluru: DK district's first Indira Canteen inaugurated at State Bank

Mangaluru, Mar 6: District in-charge minister Ramanath Rai along with minister for food and civil supplies U T Khader inaugurated Dakshina Kannada's first Indira Canteen at State Bank area here on Tuesday, March 6.

Addressing the gathering, U T Khader said, "This is Dakshina Kannada district's first Indira Canteen. Another one will be started at Urwa Stores. Indira Canteen at State Bank will be very useful for people here as this region has several labourers, fishermen, and daily wage labours working day and night. With the motive of making Karnataka a hunger-free state, chief minister Siddaramaiah has introduced several people-friendly and pro-poor schemes. Indira Canteen is also one among them where food is available at Rs 5 and Rs 10 thrice a day."

District in-charge minister Ramanath Rai said, "In addition to Indira Canteen at State Bank as well as Urwa Stores, two more outlets will be inaugurated at Suratkal and Kavoor. If there is one government that introduces programmes for the poor, it is the Congress government. Chief minister Siddaramaiah introduced several people-friendly schemes including Anna Bhagya, pension, bonus for beedi workers and many more. Even the Vidyasiri Scheme is a revolution in education sector where uniforms, books, and free lunch are being provided. Congress government has always helped the poor."

Other than State Bank, Indira Canteen will be inaugurated at Urwa Stores, Kavoor, and Suratkal. Indira Canteens at Pumpwell and Ullal are expected to be inaugurated shortly.

In the menu at Indira Canteen, for breakfast, idli will be available on all seven days. Other than idli, puliyogere will be served on Monday, kharabaath on Tuesday, pongal on Wednesday, rava khichdi on Thursday, chitranna on Friday, Vangibaath on Saturday and kesaribath on Sunday.

For lunch and dinner, white rice, sambhar or curd rice will be served at Rs 10.

MLA J R Lobo, chief whip of legislative council Ivan D’Souza, mayor Kavitha Sanil, deputy commissioner Sasikaanth Senthil, corporator Sabitha Misquith and others were present.

It's government project made of people's money.... they completely forgot that. they are acting as of it's siddaramiah sponsored from his pocket money. so, no point in naming Indira. another point to be noted is that , whole canteen is coloured Green. Any significance of this here... I don't think it was a coincidence or unknowingly. That's the another congress agenda. Any ways... unless money lobby found here.... good move if poor get food for a reasonable price.

First I am not happy with the name. Always one family one name. What Rashi said is right. In India everything is under one family ( airport,hospital ,school). which kept the country poor and still developing country.Canteen name should be Bharath or India canteen.. These appeasement schemes are used as a vote bank (as in jaya Amma TN)and make the people lazy. All neibhouring restaurants will lose business because rich and middle class will also use this canteen which run by tax payers money supposed use for developments. These canteens should serve subsidied food only for low income people and others should pay little more than the cost.
See the canteen window just like a jail window or kerala liquor shop window. There should be qualified (Catering) manager to look after canteen and regular quality check for cleanliness and adulteration.. Now itself the burfie looks adulterated .
Karnataka supposed to be IT hub but still we have to stand in Queues to pay taxes and many other services. One thing is clear,this government has proved that while sleeping you can run this banana republic.

SEEING IS BELIEVING.Yes I had been there to this canteen some minutes back and certainly I had to bow my head down .A good ambiance and a lovely atmosphere.Everything for a day Rs.25/- that includes breakfast,afternoon meal and dinner.No parcel only stand and eat.It is made to a weekly chart and this includes
Monday - Idli - 3 with chutney Rs. 5/- only
Tuesday- Kharbath
Wednesday - Pongal
thurday rava kharabath
friday - vangibath
saturday - kherabath
sunday -karabath
similaly food white rice with veg curry and curd rice for Rs.10/ or
chitranna and curd rice
Made into a week chart.
I said them big thank to the one who offered food to me and our loving Sddaramaiah in my heart.

The work this government is doing is really really appreciative . I guess this is the best government in Indian history. Siddanna you are the best. U are creating history here for the development works carried on, thousands of them, few of them are world’s largest and India’s largest. People started to sit near temples and collect few rupees in an hour..and come and eat in indira canteen. Left with some money at night visit sarai shop and again visit indira canteen.
