Udupi, Aug 15: The setting up of a coastal development authority for efficiently managing progress across the coastal district, setting up of a Koti-Chennayya theme park at Karkala, grant of 75,000 kilo liters of subsidized diesel for fisheries, setting up of a Yakshagana study center and Kanakadas study center at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) College in the city, completing the access road to Bannanje, Kalsanka, Kadiyali, and Manipal, from National Highway (NH) 17, developing a service road parallel to NH 17 through Ambagilu, Nittoor, Gundibail, Kalsanka, Kinni Mulky and Diana Circle, were some of the upcoming projects announced by Dr V S Acharya, district-in-charge and state home minister, during Independence Day celebrations held at municipal grounds, in Ajjarkad, on Friday, August 15.
Udupi MLA Raghupaty Bhat, zilla panchayat president Raju Poojary, vice-president Sujata Vasudev, taluk panchayat president Geetha G Prabhu, municipal councilor Dinakar Shetty, deputy commissioner Hemalata P, and senior police officers were present on the dais.
Dr Acharya also witnessed the guard of honour by district armed police, scouts and guides, and home guards, during the Independence Day parade. Achievers in education and other spheres were felicitated by the minister and the youth sports department also honoured achievers.
A large number of people, including students of various schools and colleges from all over the district, attended the celebration. Kudi Vasant Shetty compered the programme.
